GPS files for trails

Something that drives me up the wall: not being able to find decent-quality trail maps online. Here's an example of what I mean: it would be useful if it were actually more legible and detailed. Then there are the copyright issues inherent with reproducing existing maps online - nobody wants to get sued. With that in mind, I figured we could use this thread to exchange GPS routes and waypoints of various trails that we've visited. Even if you don't have a GPS unit, there are still plenty of free GPS software packages available to at least let you generate printable maps from the data.

Since it's not currently possible to directly attach files to forum posts, I'd suggest that data be exported to .csv (comma-separated value) format in the GPS software, loaded up into Notepad or a similar text editor, then copied and pasted into a post. This way it can just be re-copied and pasted out, then imported back into whatever software you happen to be using. Be sure to set the title of the post to a description of the area covered to help with pinpointing the data.

As an example of what a cut-and-paste from a .csv file would look like, I made this one from one of the ExpertGPS sample files (the text formatting is intentional, and should be left this way when pasting):

One request: Please use this thread only for posting your GPS data files. If you have questions or comments about this thread, please take them to another thread or PM the person posting the file. This one is really only intended to collect the GPS data.

It looks like exactly what I have been looking for. Topo maps with the trail marked, important waypoints listed, photos and trail descriptions. I love maps and geocaching and GPS and all that but that Expert GPS format is hard for me to use. Why not use that as a database?

Oops, I just read the last line of your post. :gag:

Oooh... *Very* nice. This is just what I've been looking for as well.

Heh, no worries... Someone else has already put the effort in, so no sense replicating their work :)
