Welp, we will still get our mail.... but, looks like a pretty serious deal going on right now/ hopefully the right and left make something happen. This would prob shoot us into a major market correction:gonnablow

Here is a little food for thought.

THIS SENIOR CITIZEN NAILED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alan Simpson, Senator from Wyoming , Co-Chair of Obama's deficit
commission, calls senior citizens the Greediest Generation as he
compared "Social Security" to a Milk Cow with 310 million teats.
August, 2010.

Here's a response in a letter from a unknown fellow in Montana ... I
think he is a little ticked off ! He also tells it like it is !

"Hey Alan, let's get a few things straight...

1. As a career politician, you have been on the public dole for FIFTY
YEARS.

2. I have been paying Social Security taxes for 48 YEARS (since I was 15
years old. I am now 63).

3. My Social Security payments, and those of millions of other
Americans, were safely tucked away in an interest bearing account for
decades until you political pukes decided to raid the account and give
OUR money to a bunch of zero ambition losers in return for votes, thus
bankrupting the system and turning Social Security into a Ponzi scheme
that would have made Bernie Madoff proud.

4. Recently, just like Lucy & Charlie Brown, you and your ilk pulled the
proverbial football away from millions of American seniors nearing
retirement and moved the goalposts for full retirement from age 65 to
age 67. NOW, you and your shill commission is proposing to move the
goalposts YET AGAIN.

5. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying into Medicare
from Day One, and now you morons propose to change the rules of the
game. Why? Because you idiots mismanaged other parts of the economy to
such an extent that you need to steal money from Medicare to pay the
bills.

6. I, and millions of other Americans, have been paying income taxes our
entire lives, and now you propose to increase our taxes yet again. Why?
Because you incompetent bastards spent our money so profligately that
you just kept on spending even after you ran out of money. Now, you come
to the American taxpayers and say you need more to pay off YOUR debt.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To add insult to injury, you label us "greedy" for calling "bullshit" on
your incompetence. Well, Captain Bullshit, I have a few questions for
YOU.
1. How much money have you earned from the American taxpayers during
your pathetic 50-year political career?
2. At what age did you retire from your pathetic political career, and
how much are you receiving in annual retirement benefits from the
American taxpayers?
3. How much do you pay for YOUR government provided health insurance?
4. What cuts in YOUR retirement and healthcare benefits are you
proposing in your disgusting deficit reduction proposal, or, as usual,
have you exempted yourself and your political cronies?
It is you, Captain Bullshit, and your political co-conspirators who are
"greedy". It is you and they who have bankrupted America and stolen the
American dream from millions of loyal, patriotic taxpayers. And for
what? Votes. That's right, sir. You and yours have bankrupted America
for the sole purpose of advancing your pathetic political careers. You
know it, we know it, and you know that we know it.
And you can take that to the bank, you miserable son of a bitch."
PASS IT ON!!!!
Here is some more interesting stuff :D
Charley Reese has been a journalist for 49 years.
Be sure to read the Tax List at the end.
This is about as clear and easy to understand as it can be - read
it!! The article below is completely neutral, not anti republican or
democrat.
Worth the time.
Worth remembering!
555 PEOPLE--By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who
create problems and then campaign against them..
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and
the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are
against inflation and high taxes,WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The
President does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to
vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy,
the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one
President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 555 human beings out
of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually
responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board
because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress
delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but PRIVATE, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists
for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.
The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 555 human beings spend much of their energy
convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the
gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits..... The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the
land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for
originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who was the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She was the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want.
If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300
million cannot replace 555 people who stand convicted -- by present facts --
of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic
problem that is not traceable directly to those 555 people. When you fully
grasp the plain truth that 555 people exercise the power of the
federal government, then it must follow that what
exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it
unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want
it in the red ..
If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan
it's because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan ...
If they do not receive social security but are on an
elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it
that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 555 people shift the blame to
bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists,
whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the
power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not
let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical
forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from
doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 555 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power..
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by
the people who are their bosses.
Provided the voters have the gumption to manage
their own employees...
We should vote all of them out of office and clean
up their mess!
Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando
Sentinel Newspaper.
What you do with this article now that you have read
it......... Is up to you
This might be funny if it weren't so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid...
Put these words
Upon his tomb,
Taxes drove me
to my doom...'
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
Yeah, I'm a bit worried about possibly going on an un-paid furlow. I live paycheck to paycheck so if I even lose a weeks worth of pay I'm toasted. I've got plenty of leave saved up in case I get hurt or sick and need to take an extended break from work w/o losing pay by going on workman's comp, but I can't afford to go completely without my pay check. Of course it doesn't bother those assholes at washington because they've got plenty of money left over from raiding our coffers.
I love how its not "economically viable" to get better armor and equipment for the military that protects their sorry asses but politicians can go on vacations with their entire families 24/7, and all over the world at that. XXXX all of them and their self absorbed greedy asses. Being in the military I will take a bullet for a politician because thats my job, to stand up and protect each and every United States CITIZEN; but just because I'll take a bullet for them doesn't mean I will ever shake a single one of those political XXXXtard's hands. And guess what, if the gov't shuts down then I'm not technically a soldier any more am I. We'll just see how how my disposition towards them goes after that. I'll be an unemployed combat vet w/ 10yrs experience in the US Army looking for a job to support my family because the gov't was too stupid to pass a budget. Whose hiring? Whose actually able to pay their soldiers? Who wants who shot? Who wants what country taken over? Oh yeah, whats that [insert country's name here]? You're actually going to honor your commitment to pay me in a manner that allows me to support and raise my family in a comfortable standard just like for the last decade (and over 1/3 of my life) I've honored my commitment to do what you ask in service of my country even at the sacrifice of my relationships with friends and family, my health, and potentially my own life. Ok, well in that case [insert country's name here] I just have one question for you. Where would you like me to lay our political leaders' bodies before I plant your flag in their chests.
I am right there with ya Dutch. It is truly a sad state of affairs and my second time going without a paycheck from the Feds. Our Government needs to be held accountable for their incompetence!:tears:
You won't even get that because the people who create your LES's will also be out of work.
The same WE that put Bush in office...twice. Ok now I've said too much.
BTW, have you guys seen/heard of the blue eyes/brown eyes study? It's pretty much the moral of our entire society. 98% of Humans = Sheep.
Ok now I've REALLY said too much
I'm not a Demo BTW...for the record. :p
For everyone that was opposed to Bush, I invite you to read his book Desicion Points.
Is that how he spelled Decision? ;) J/K, but Is it a "pop up"? :read:
But in all seriousness, I'm not saying him or any one person is to blame for all the country's down falls. Personally, I think it's our "I want everything and be everything but don't want to pay for it" , and our "He/she's to blame, not me" mentality that is killing us. Roman empire here we come.
United we stand, divided we fall. Truth and yet we as a society fail to adhere to the rule. The very concept of political parties goes against the United we stand by dividing us as a country. Talking politics is frowned apon in many places because it leads to confrontation and division. Yet, this is exactly how those in political power want us as a nation....... divided! Because WE are divided as a nation politicly there is no chance that those in control will ever be held accountable for their gross misconduct! We the people means a UNION and until the people of this nation become a UNION the powers that be will run amuck .........
the "United", in "United States" references the treaty/compact between the states (i.e. the constitution) to create a limited federal government and to delegate limited powers to that federal government for limited "united" purposes, such as the common defense, etc. It is expressly NOT a "union" of the people of the various states in common rule, or at least was not intended to be so, rather is is limited unity of states - "United States". When we try to have homogeneous rule over 300 million people of different backgrounds, faiths, beliefs, cultures, and opinions from a single seat of power in the Maryland swamps, we are guaranteed to have conflict, disagreement and be anything but "united".
The current schmuck isn't any worse (or better) than the last schmuck, their agendas and thus far policies are virtually identical once you get past the BS rhetoric -- perpetual war for natural resources, oppression of civil liberties through the ironically named "patriot act", indefinite detention of alleged criminals with no due process of law in foriegn prisons not subject to US law, etc... This is the effect of centralized power, it always is - corruption and oppression, and it will only get worse until we cease to allow it to do so.
The only solution for a truly free, less corrupt, and prosperous America is to follow the blueprint of the constitution, vest power in states, not the feds, allow the states to have the differing laws that their various citizens demand, and allow the citizens of the several states to move and trade freely amongst them to find those laws/circumstances that best suit their life philosophy. If the rules are the same everywhere, where does the minority opinion go to escape the oppression of the majority? State's rights is the key.
I'm sorry that Dutch, Ira and others get caught up in this political BS about government shutdown, and the gamesmanship about what portions of government are de-funded and what are not -- is it coincidence that unemployment and welfare benefits will continue to be paid during any shutdown, but military personnel won't? Nope, they're trying to create the biggest impact so that the public that isn't already on the dole will scream the loudest for a deal to be made so the feds can get back to the business of robbing us all blind -- it is just a bigger version of when the City of Colorado Springs stopped watering parks and shut off streetlights in an attempt to get the citizens to agree to more taxes. Total BS. If we are going to have a government shutdown, then lets shut the f%&#er down, stop ALL federal spending, bring the empire home for common defense instead of common aggression, dissolve the entitlement state, and allow the people of the various states to take care of themselves and each other in the manner I am certain they would.
/rant.
I also feel bad for those who make there living from our so called Gov, But when you speak of entitlements ,some folks have actually earned them and are entitled to them, I am thankful that s/s and va disabilitys will not be affected , otherwise i will be sleeping in the wj and standing on a offramp sign asking for help.
I hear ya, man, and because I'm a moral person who has faced the fact that I will never be the beneficiary of such entitlements, despite promises to the contrary, my solution would be this: The "gov" should have the intellectual honesty to call the FICA tax a TAX, not a contribution to some illusory trust fund -- I am perfectly willing to continue to pay my FICA TAX in order to ensure that the generations of Americans who justifiably relied upon the government's promise of "pay in and we'll pay out" don't get screwed and have to live in a van down by the river. But my generation certainly has no such justifiable claim to entitlements, so we should be tightening our belts, taking responsibility for our selves, and starting to take steps in the right direction -- like massive cuts in federal budgets (I'm talking with a "T", not a "B") and absolutely refusing to allow any further federal borrowing.
/insert sarcasm/ -- exactly the same way we do it right now: the Federal Reserve prints the money and hands it out under the table (resulting in price inflation that really hits fixed income folks in the wallet, but hey, that's the price of "making the world safe for democracy") :rolleyes:
Wow I just found out, that although my department wont be shut down, the people that pay us will be. We get our pay from the Dep. of Ag. So great we are expected to work, we will be paid, but we may not get paid on time!
