got a free motorcycle last owner lost the keys:(

ok, so i called the police department today, and the bike isn't stolen! woot! so i went to the local kawi dealer, but they can't make me a key so i got them to order me a key blank, and my locksmith friend hopefully will have time to cut it out for me friday!
i don't mind not being able to ride the bike right now, because i've got 4"' of snow on the ground right now, but it's gonna warm up sometime!(i hope)

why not just get the key code off the gas tank lock, and go to a locksmith and have them cut the key by code? or, take the ignition out and take it to a locksmith and have them make a key from the cylinder? surely you have a locksmith shop around there some where?

it's already covered. i didn't wanna pay a local locksmith the $130 they quoted me, so i bought a blank from the dealer, and a friend is gonna cut me a key for much cheaper on friday. it's 27 degrees and snowing in murfreesboro, so there isn't much i wanna do on a motorcycle right now anyway. thanks for the interest, though....

$130.00? was that for them to come to you? I know the shop I used to work at charged about 15 bucks to cut a key by code....but, that was in the shop, otherwise we didnt work on anything automotive/vehicle related

yeah, i think so. they didn't really seem to care to do the job of cutting a key. i think most of the ones here are more geared towards breaking into cars that people locked their keys in or something. they didn't even offer the option of me bringing it to them.

i think the real thing to ask is how are you going to ride it once its started without the ability to tag it.... i mean i grew up in the country but we had cops to and they get just as pissed when your riding an unregistered bike..
