Got a dilemma, need opinions.

Larry I did what you want to do. Bought a $500 car, spent about $150 on it and got double the mileage of the Jeep. At the time I was commuting from Beaverton to Woodburn and even with the added cost of insurance I made up the difference in fuel consumption in a few months. I just sold the car for $500 so in the end it cost me almost nothing. I say do it right and it'll work out for you.

And that's what I was thinking, I know there can be good deals made on cheap. My first car(96' olds cutlass supreme) I got for $800 and it got 27mpg and I had it for 2.5 years. My thoughts were to get a cheap car that maybe needed a few things fixed, and just take a few months fixing it as time permits and have it ready when the baby is born.

I'm still up in the air as to what to do.
What if she sells her bug, gets a reliable better car and I use my money and get a project car to fix and drive?

Well she's changed her mind lol she doesn't want to sell her bug and wants to wait till after the baby is born. :-/ instead she wants to save money BUT get a larger bed.... We have a queen but she wants a king to share the bed with the baby

Glad you took my first advice to wait on the car.

Now you really need to listen to my second piece advice - NEVER let your kid sleep in bed or even in your room with you. You will never get rid of them and your sleep and life will suffer. This is even better advice than the car advice, you just can't see it yet.

And not that it happens a lot but it's very dangerous to let a new born sleep in bed with you.

See i know that but she doesn't. She's pretty set on having the baby sleep with us in the bed
Which I feel is a bad idea.

X2, picked up the "Smurf Car" for $1000. I racked up over 15,000 miles on it in one year, averaging ~40 mpg. Sold it a year later for $1000. That was a good purchase, and saved a ton of wear and tear daily driving the Jeep.
