I use an old Craftsman floor jack, 2.5 ton and a new Harbor Freight 3 ton heavy steel one & love them both. I also use 3, 6, and 12 ton HF jack stands with good results. I think the stands are on sale right now! Can't go wrong.
I have an Allied Tool (ATD) 3 ton that i got on sale through work for 149 5 years ago, and i've been beating the crap out of it the whole time I move 5-7 cars a week through my driveway doing side work. the only thing that is starting to give me trouble is the teeth between the arm and the base are starting to skip a bit.
i use the HF 6 ton stands and love them and a 2 year old beat to crap HF 3.5 ton jack that is heavy as hell but works and doesnt leak and has good down control
i got the hf stands and some jack i bought from advanced auto years ago. haven't had any trouble with it. i wanna say its a big red or something like that but i'd have to go look to be positive
I have an old (15 y/o) TSC 3 ton jack and still can't lift my XJ high enough. The HF 6 ton stands do a good job of supporting it when I do finally get it high enough.
I got my 3.5 ton floor jack from sam's club for $85...had it 9 years now and still works as good as the day I got it. I got matching stands for $35 a set of 2 as well..
