so im getting ready to repaint the jeep, its sunburnt as hell, so i want to make it look good again. i know the color code i just need to know, how much paint I need. 1 to 2 quarts? where can i buy paint up here in N. Chicago area, reducers, hardeners, do i still need those to cut the paint. what is the better clear? any help be great.

Well it depends on if you want to use a single stage paint or a base coat ,clear coat. You should decide that first. The single stage will be cheaper. Remember your paint job is only as good as the prep work.

maaco does it real cheap to! lol. i think for a jeep the wanted like 400. i just rattle can everytihng

yea im starting from nothing up here, the GF said i could use her garage, and thought, shit thats a good idea, and between the eqp and materials its getting expensive fast. might go do the one stage at maaco till i get back from my next deployment and i have the money. might use the extra money to regear. ill see what chicago maaco charges. thanks all.

do the prep/body work yourself. thats the hardest and most time consuming part anyway. itll save you a ton of cost. spraying is easy.

if you tell maaco all you want is them to degrease and spray it, itll be a lot cheaper than buying the materials yourself. and after taking auto body and having access to a down draft booth and some of the best equipment available... well, im spoiled. lol. ill never spray (my own vehicle) in a garage. ive seen some jobs come out well but i dont think its worth the effort when maaco will do it.

EDIT:
i just noticed your "location". are you moving from norfolk to chicago or something.? i lived in norfolk for the first 20 years of my life.

If you are going to shoot it yourself, I recommend www.paintforcars.com. Get their urethane and put a clear over it. They are cheap and the paint is good.

If you want a cheap paint job check out earl scheib at irving and western in chicago

Do this, if you want paint all over your windows, door handles, roof rack and tires

:dunce:

Just remember that the quality of your final paint job has EVERYTHING to do with the prep you do before hand. Without properly prepping a paint surface you are wasting your time

I just painted mine last week with about a qt and a half. I just did a good wash job and taped it off and shot it, turned out really nice and I had $20 in materials. I used a tractor an implament paint from rural king.

not trying to shoot you down... as i honestly hope it came out well and lasts a long time.

but washing it is not enough. it needs to be properly degreased. even something as simple as a finger print can turn into really bad "fish eye".
