ok, thought i knew how to figure my stock ratio without pulling the cover, but the answer doesn't make sense, so i must be doing it wrong. How do you figure the ratio out without spending the money on fluid. I jacked up the rear end, put it in "N",spun the driveshaft and counted the number of turns the tire made, to the number the shaft made and ??? The driveshaft spun about 1.5 time to the tires 2. Help please.

Its a 5 spd 4.0 w/ np231 right? 3.07 gears, 99.9% chance those are the ones.

One of the diffs should have a tag on them, it'll be attached by the bolts that hold on the diff cover.

Spin the tires and count the driveshaft revolutions. Much easier if you mark the shaft.

You also get a more accurate measurement by doing more than 2 revolutions. Try 10 or 20, at least.

both the driveshaft and tire were marked. i'll try more revolutions.
