hey guys, i just had a quick question about gear pricing. im down at school so i cant do the gears myself, so i called my local 4x4 shop and he quoted me roughly 650 to install the gears ( front and rear) i already have all the stuff. my queastion is that high or what? thanks chris

it might be a little high.. but not unreasonable.. he will be doing all the disassembly as well as scheduling lift time for the vehicle.. look around for an axle shop or a performance shop. it's been a while since i lived there but there used to be Clifford Performance in dennis and an old school buddy of mine had a hot rod shop on Bearses way in Hyannis.. my local axle shop does my axles for $150 /ea if i bring him a housing with no shafts.. so the quote you got is pretty reasonable i guess.. always shop around..

For where you are located that's cheap. In the midwest it would be high.

However ... "quoted" and "roughly" do not belong together. A quotation is for a firm, fixed price. If the word "roughly" or "maybe" or "might" is in there, it isn't a quotation, it's an "estimate" and the final price could be more. Be sure you know how MUCH more it might be before you sign on the dotted line to authorize the work to start.
