gauges+TACH for an '88?

eventually I'll go to a junkyard... been saying that since September or so though... but thought I'd check here first.

Anybody got an instrument panel w/tach that'll work on an '88 XJ? Preferably somewhere around Orlando so pickup would be an option, but whatever.

[yes, i know somebody offered me one when I asked months ago; i kinda became, uh, otherwise occupied and never checked back. oops... :laugh: ]
 
i have what you need from an 87 i stripped last year... speedo, 7K tach, temp, fuel, oil, and alt guages....

I have an '89 cluster w/tach, and know the JY wants a full bill for one. What is it worth to you for me to remove one and send it? E-mail [email protected]
 
has anyone swapped the gauge clusters from the Basic (large fuel gauge) to the Sport( tack and small fuel gauge).? how hard would it be to do?

'tis what I'll be doing once I get the panel from sidriptide up there... from what I've read, it's a straight swap of the panel, +/- any monkeying with the odometer to make it match. Might want to take it somewhere who knows what the paperwork is for that, for legalness purposes... this Jeep's staying in the family until it dies so i probably won't mess with it. As for sensors, you'll have to replace the temp and oil pressure sensors; the ones you have now are simple switches, you need the variable-readout ones.
 
I haven't even looked at the wiring harness.... Does the tach just plug into the existing harness?...
