Front Driveshaft

I have a 1988 manual Jeep Cherokee XJ with Dana 44 axles and a motor and transmission swap off a 96’ Cherokee. I need to get a front drive shaft and I stupidly purchased a 88’ drive shaft which is too long. I assume do to the motor and transmission swap. Also to note I am on a 4.5 inch lift and have a transfer case drop. Any ideas on what front drive shaft will fit?

You will need to measure to determine what fits.

My local drive-line shop will shorten and balance a drive shaft for $75

This Dana Spicer catalog documents driveshaft lengths for all years and drive-line variations of XJ.

Too long is the right side of the problem. Too short and you would need to have it re-tubed. That would cost more.

Tim's advice is the way to go. Look up how to measure, make sure you have the right style and size of U-joint to connect at each end, get good measurements and then have a shop make it the right length.
