no kidding! seems like the number has doubled since I asked you a few weeks ago if I could join. what's the plan as far as order? is it fastest to put the more capable rigs at the front, back or scattered? I've never wheeled with more than 2 other vehicles, this will be ... umm... "interesting"

Bring a pillow.

No pillow for me, I'm heading to SoCal sunday morning, so i gotta get my butt off the trail Saturday night. I can finish the trail solo in the dark if need be.

I'd like to do the same. I have lights as well. It's a fun trip, but I kind of would like to get back by Saturday night and just make it a day run. I know there are others who just want to make it a day run.

So, anybody back from Fordyce? I want pics and stories! Jeff

I don't have any pics at the moment, I have a cheapy throw away camera that I need to get developed. The Fordyce portion that I was a part of was great. I had a good time, eventhough I was behind Poomba who had major driveshaft/slip yoke problems and needed to be towed by Richard (Goatman) about 5 miles or more of the trail. Man Richards xj/mj is a beast with that stroker motor and pulled effortlessly. Also 1 guy from CO, sorry I don't know your name, was on 38's and was in front of Richard to link up with him so both of them pulled in some sections. I was amazed at how fast Richard/CO guy was able to pull Poomba through parts of hard stuff that I got 1/4 miles or so back at times, heah I'm getting better.

The group started the trail a bit after 10 a.m. Saturday & I pulled into camp at the end of the trail at 5 a.m. Sunday morning, I tried catching some Z's for about an hour till 6 a.m. and then headed home. Jes & Crash who were in front of the group I was in doubled back from where they were up the trail and were part of the recovery team that got Poomba to camp.
The hardest of the tow was over winch hill 4 & 5 which took hours of winching and straping etc. It was fun though and I loved the team work that went into getting Poomba to camp and off the trail. Lee (Crazy4Mopar) had some issues us too and needed to be towed some distance, but he was in front of the group I was with so I don't know all the details. Anyways it was nice matching names with faces and being able to wheel with legends like Richard, Andy, Jes and others who I've looked up to when I got into xj's and lived in Chicago. It was awesome to be part of the run and the brotherhood. Hopefully Poomba & Lee (Crazy4Mopar) get fixed up and can continue the upcoming parts of the trek through the Con & Barrett Lake.

Sorry I wasn't able to say goodbye to you guys, I knew you'd be sleeping in and I had to get back to help my father-in-law with his sprinklers/pool that he is putting in. The bobcat wrecked his and his neighbors yards/sprinklers.
Sorry also for the novel I wrote here, but it should kind of paint the picture until the pics come in after the xj crew gets back and posts them.

Last but not least: Thank you so much Lee for getting my lower control arm bolted back up. I came in late, 5 to 10 a.m. and my lower control arm bolt broke a few miles before I got there and Lee pulled, pushed, hammered etc with me to get that thing hooked up again. Sorry I wasn't able to return the favor when you broke down, but I was last in line with another broken rig. I owe you bud.

So it was an all nighter, eh? Wow. Jeff

Oh, yeah. It was a 19 hr run dude, but fun too. A real extraction/towing clinic. :laugh3:

Here is the lowdown on my junk........
Both UCA's broken, both drive lines broken, busted draglink, Shattered lift blocks, and a hole in my tire the size of my fist :wow:
I'm tired going back to sleep:confused1

Wow, sorry you had so many problems. I think the amt of weight you carry with all the stuff you bring might have something to do and your driving style, but breaking down is pretty much a sure thing eventually on trails like Fordyce, Con, etc. Also your weight up top on your roof seemed to lean you over a bit from what I saw. I'm not an expert and I'm not trying to preach, just my $.02 Do you just have a rear locker? I think a front locker like an arb would be good, because then if you get stuck or have a tricky area, you can just lock the front and climb up something without having to hammer down the gas. Hope you're up and running soon Lee, thanks again for getting my LCA hooked up.
Are you at home, or just writing this from a laptop? I'm assuming your home, and if so, you made it. :D I ripped 1 of my mtr's, I 1st thought I just popped a bead, but there is a rip in my sidewall I now have my nearly bald bfg mt on there. It looks ugly. I'll have to see if anyone local has a 35" mtr 40-100% out there to sell. I love my mtr's.

ahh good old Fordyce, sounds like it took its toll. I was thinking of you guys as I drove past Cisco grove on Sat and Sun.

Why didn't you join us for the fun??? Were you just going up to Tahoe?

This was by far the most breakage I've seen on a wheelin' trip. This was also the most rigs I've ever wheeled with (16 total, if I recall), so I guess the breakage might be proportional. I'll be curious to hear the stories of how everybody made it out of Fordyce, and how everyone did on the second leg in the 'Con. This was the longest day of wheelin' I've ever done, but it was very fun. Anyway, here are a few pics:

Yeah, but is was alot of fun. I'd do it again, well maybe not as much recovery, but the trail was nice especially in the dark.

Ok where is the rest of the pictures?

I think we might have to wait till next Monday after most everyone is back home. I only had a crappy throw away camera and have to finish out my roll, I was too busy in recovery etc during the 19 hr trek to snap more pics. :tears:

I just gave enough to peak your curiosity. Wait till the rest of the crew gets back- I'm sure they'll start a new thread so that we don't have to come to the 5th page to see pics...
