Today is 4-14-04. Went up icehouse road today. Checked uncle Tom's cabin road to George Town. First 1.3 miles clear. After that there is 2-3 feet of snow indrifts in the shady sides of the mountain. (south faceing) And I assume more the higher up you go. Went up the road towards the Wentworth Springs access. Icehouse to Wentworth is clear except for minor snow spots, but deffinetly passable. I got in towards Wentworth about 3/4 ths of a mile before hitting serious snow drifts of 2-3 feet and more. Deeper in the shady parts of the trail. I'm sure much deeper as you gain elivation . Went up to Loon. Smud has plowed the road all the way accross both dams and down to the parking area at the bottom of the dam. There is snow in the parking area, but there is some limmited parking. There is snow at the spillway , about a foot and a half and tappering off to nothing as you climb the hill to the drop off towards the gate keeper. The downside of that hill has 2-3 feet of very wet and soft snow, tappering off slowly as you reach the road at the bottom of that hill. Allot of snow in the general are. Gate keeper is clear , with some snow in drifts after it. Not to bad though. clear after the aligator swamp to the top of the bowl on the gate keeper side. Allot of snow going down from there to the granit bowl. Some tracks skirting that hill going east. Other side of bowl is tottaly clear. I didn't bother hiking back any further than that as experience has shown that the Ellis creek area is probably still under 4-5 feet of snow yet, and its very soggy. The area's I walked down were more than the average rig could handle, and look to be a couple of weeks away from easy travel. Remember the Donner party, bring a friend, steak sauce, and a fork, besides the usual recovery gear. Matt a local guy
... don't know about Fordyce though.
