flat screen tv

We're starting to do some things to the new house. Today we installed slate tile around the fireplace. Next we're going to start painting. We recently bought a nice flat screen tv and would love to hang it from the wall. We'd like it to go in a corner and also need to hang the Direct tv receiver and a DVD player. We asked about having the place we bought the tv from install it and they wanted 500 bones. Can't do that. We have seen the mount for about 100. I'd like the wires to be as hidden as possible. Anyone have experience hanging stuff like this and fishing the wires through the walls? I guess I'd have to hide all 3 power cables and the cable itself. They all need to pretty much drop straight down but the cable needs to go a little off from where the power chords go. I'm guessing they wouldn't be enirely hidden. Seems like a lot of $ to have someone run everything. Guess that's why they get so much for installation. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to hang the tv and run wires before painting. I'll get some pics up.

Here's what I'm thinking:

The power chords from all 3 devices are too short so I'd have to see about getting longer chords for the appliances. I really need to use a power surge strip on the tv. Is this what happens when jewelery enters the relationship? House projects rule all? :laugh3: At least this project involves fishing in some aspect.

knock a hole in the wall behind the TV and next to the existing box, run the wires, pull them through 2 old work boxes from home depot and either buy cover plates that do what you want or cut blank plates yourself.
The only tricky part is going to be fighting the insulation in the wall, but it's still fairly simple. You might need to use a hangar or just buy a fish tape, or I have one you can borrow.
The old work boxes should come with a template for the cutout so you don't make it too big.

unless I misunderstand your intentions
would suggest www.partsexpress.com for most of what you need but the boxes are less than a dollar each at home depot.
I'm sure you can find mroe ideas at www.hometheaterforum.com and/or www.avsforum.com

I don't know of any neat shelves that will corner mount but I'm sure you can find some or just fab up a glass shelf and snchor some supports to the studs.

This might sound getto fab and well it kind of is, but I saw a guy that used PVC pipe to hid his cables and cords. Think it was 2 or 3 inch and he mounted it to the wall right under the TV and then his dish reciver DVD player and reciver stuff was all still down low. He painted to to match the wal paint and I was at this house 3 times before I noticed thats what he was using because his GF pointed it out to me. I myself would like the clean behind the wall surface look no wires no nothing showing, but I don't know if I could pull that one off on my own.

Your cable outlet is on a corner stud. It would be easy to run all your cables up that stud to the height of a wall/corner mount. If you have any drywall skills knowledge it would be pretty easy based on what I see.

If you don't however, rerouting cables and extending existing lines can get pricy. Did the $500 quote INCLUDE the wall mount. Good wall mounts can cost $200+ alone.

Check out Parts Express for your mounting stuff.
