Fender Flares on cut fenders.

I recently bought a 96 XJ with 4.5 long arm lift with 35x12.50r15 tires on it, has been geared. The stock fender have been cut already passed the manufacturing drilled holes and wanted to put some Bushwackers on there to clean up the look. will Bushwacker fender flares work or do i need to go to flat flares to create more clearance? or does anyone have any other ideas to clean the look up

The big Bushwackers will work. They actually require cutting so it should work depending how much is cut. I had them for several years on cut flares, but never really liked how cheesy and cheap they looked. Plus the hollow part likes to collect dirt and mud.

The best solution is Notch Customs fiberglass fender flares. They go very high and require lots of fender trimming but you gain tons of room for tires. An absolute PITA to install but they are the best looking XJ flare out there. Here is a pic: https://photos.app.goo.gl/B8P8oijjT6cF2dss8

They look good, but the only thing I don't like about fiberglass fender flares is they are easily breakable. We have a lot of trees here in the South and they are hard on fiberglass.

They are surprisingly tough and made of thick fiberglass. I have dragged the left rear on a rock and the right rear on a tree and they haven't broken yet. Just a little touch up paint and they look good as new. FWIW I did crack one of the old Bushwackers on a rock.

There is a guy on cherokeeforum.com that even rolled onto the Notch flare and it didn't break. Pretty impressive. He even has pics to prove it. (Scroll to last couple posts)
