Note to self: Follow your own advice.
I keep telling people to replace the oxygen sensor when replacing the catalytic converter. Connecticut is reinstituting emissions testing, and of course the vehicle in "the fleet" that came up first would have to be the one sidelined with a plugged cat. So I did a rush job to replace the exhaust system, took the truck in today for the test ... and failed. I was high on CO (carbon monoxide).
I figured it must be the O2 sensor and went directly to the dealer to get one. Stopped in the shop to ask the foreman if he agreed with my diagnosis. He laughed and held up an emissions repair form he was signing off. Same thing -- and the vehicle was a '94 XJ belonging to one of the service advisors.
