factory trailer wiring

I don't have a schematic but I added the wiring on my 89 XJ sport easily. Napa has an adapter that plugs into your existing taillight harness inside the left rear panel. It's plug and play. Just route the harness down to the hitch and you're good to go.

thats not what i want to do. i am makeing my own harness like the factory with relays. as i have all the supplies but no money (laid off) and tons of free time

Thats all good.., but perhaps some will chime in and take care of both issues, i.e., a drawing, and some NAPA part numbers. Thanks.

I actually have one of the factory trailer harnesses sitting in my shop. The problem is that I am 1000 miles from home right now.

I actually run the aftermarket electronic setup.

i figured it out i found a diagram for a 93 and i got it to work i will post my own wiring diagram and pic/video later when i have some more time.

Are any of you guys running electric trailer brake controllers? There is a light blue trailer wire terminated and labeled under the dash near the fuse panel on my 96 Sport. I don't have a hitch, but have been wondering how ready the electrical already is for a trailer.

do a continuity check, youll have to make a long jumper wire from the blue wire to the cargo area and there should be an unused plug behind the driver side panel in the cargo area. but make sure to unhook you battery first, because there is a 12v hot wire in that harness. also the plug should have 8 wires going into it.

heres a wire color code
red-org tracer 12v hot
drk green-red left turn
whit-tan brake
brown- red right turn
light blue from trailer brake controller
brown-light green revers lights
brown-yellow tail lights

if i am wrong on any of the wire colors feel free to correct me

Awesome info. Only thing have to tow right now is my 18' travel trailer. 3800 lbs. Don't have hitch yet. But that's not the issue. I am thinking of one of those integral bumper/hitch units. Wanted to make sure there is a trailer brake wire. Trailer brakes are awesome safety features.

if you do go that route make sure that it uses more than just the factory bumper mounts. or your trailer and bumper may pass you on the highway.ask me how i know.

I am only looking at the ones that mount with the frame nut strips, and hopefully the center bracket as well like the oem hitches.
