experience with autozone starters/alternators?

Find a local armature service and go to them, my starter crapped out on me so i took it in they looked around for my starter they didn't have it. so they said can you hang out for a bit so i did they rebuilt my starter in ten minutes rite there on the spot and it works great .

so, i need an alternator for my integra. autozone is $20 less than carquest, and can get it a little faster. i won't touch o'rly's?(kragen) electrics for any price. there's a napa nearby, but it's staffed by morons and dirtbags, so i refuse to shop there. i know carquest's stuff is pretty good(having worked there), but i know nothing of autozone's duralast line. it's a pain in the ass to get the alt out, so i don't want to have to exchange it every few months.

I did not like Autozone's starter/solenoid and did not want to pay Riebe's price. I bought my new starter at Kragen and found it to be much cheaper looking than the OEM starter, but it has worked very well and I have no real complaints so far.

Duralast sucks arse in my opinion. Take a look at their cap and rotors and you'll see that they are cheaply made and not worth the money.

Attitude and customer service are both "top down" issues.

Next time you get crappy service, be patient, get your part and pay for it, then ask to speak to the manager. Be polite, no matter how mad you are. State the facts that just happened, not something from six weeks back, and be ready for the big question--"What do you want me to do about it?". Firing the offending employee probably isn't going to happen, at least not right there in front of you. Just ask the manager to handle it in accordance with NAPA employee policies, and let the manager know that you will make a follow up call to NAPA headquarters. And make that call. Note the date, time, the offending employee(s) name and the name of the manager you talked to. You will get action, and the store will improve. Just don't expect instant results. And have the cajones to keep going back to that store.

I just discovered that the (semi)truck parts/will call counter opens earlier than the normal parts counter. Walk in with part #s and money, and walk out with parts! What a concept!

exactly how a problem should be handled. at the very least if you cannot handle facing the manager go home and give them a call. It is in their best interest to keep customers coming in, and if an employees attitude is driving customers away they will definitely want to hear about it.

well i just found out my 3 week old duralast alternator from autozone has faulty diods in it. It is draining the battery everytime i turn the car off with a slow current. It charges fine but everytime i have to turn the car off i have to disconnect the battery so i don't kill it. This damn alt has been like this since install a few weeks ago. Duralast - never again.

This is what I would do. I discovered the local starter/alternator rebuilder when I needed a starter for a '95 Z28 (LT1 starters were pricey).

I had already vowed never to buy anything with moving parts from Autozone again after I got 4 (yes, four) bad starters from them in a row. It was for an '85 Trans Am (SBC motor) so it should have been the most common starter on the shelf-I figured that would up my odds of getting a good one.
