Ever have to drive under a boulder? Video.

Ash Canyon wash, in Sierra Vista Arizona. A fun trial.
I was swueezing though this tight section and knocked a big boulder loose and it rolled into me.

About 3ft diameter and more then 40in long...It was loud when it hit my slider but not too loud in the video.

Not tech but still cool. Maybe the tech part could be watching how his latest suspension setup works.

I'd say it works pretty damn well!

very flexxxxy

a 3' rock rolls into the side of your jeep. no problem...just drive over it!! :laugh3:

gotta love it

Ash-
Looks like the air over hyd lacks quite a bit in the dampening department. How does it feel, real-world, on the trail?

Jeez.. what do you have like a 15:1 crawl ratio? :laugh3:
This has great technical info!! Perfect exapmle for a auto/manual tranny debate! :peace:

Matt :peace:

I know what the tech message is here:

How not to gear for rock crawling.

or

The best way to burn up a clutch.

You gotta rig like that and you dont know how to drive it off road? I was laughing my ass off.

maybe that's WHY he has a rig like that :laugh3:

looks like it's getting close to perfect Ashman! a little more crawl ratio and a little more tuning on those rams and it should be pretty awesome!

he might just be saving up for better gearing...or whatever. it doesnt have to be perfect...I think its a bada&& jeep. what tranny are you using? I know i dont plan on having boulders fall on my xj anytime soon...:wierd:

Looks good! Love the exo-cage! No matter what you do, someone is always going to talk smack.

Ummm that is the size of a postage stamp! How much did you compress it? Really cannot see anything!

This thread took a VERY bad turn.

is that a 4 cyl?

Well, you certainly have quit the following (read: sackriders).

Don't get me wrong. I like your rig. Just not the way it's been engineered. Great tube work. Nice axles. Super seat covers. It just doesn't all work well together, yet.

All I know is, it takes big balls to show THIS video of yourself in public. Just ask THE OWL.

I'd say that Ashman is just showing off his tube and suspension handywork. Very damn fine if I do say so myself. We all...well most of us, do our rigs as we get the funds, (and the ideas) to build them. Anyone can throw in (or have thrown in) some gears and low range to look good. Now to build your own tube buggy, and make a suspension like Ashman's? That would take some skill or some really deap pockets.

Besides, maybe the rig is so good off the road that he just wants a little challenge.

Nice work Ashman, even if you don't use low range.

Greddy

I've seen Ashman wheel live and up close. He drives just fine.
I think he's sportin' a 1.96:1 low range NP205 and so lacks the lower, low range.

I know I've personally created many, many video opportunities to demonstrate a less than complimentary representation of my driving style.
I wouldn't take this clip out of context.
Having the hindsight of how to drive something after you've done it once already, let alone having a spectator's, or spotters' vantage point of what's going on around, you gives you a very different perspective from what you're seeing in the driver seat the first time through it.

A big boulder crashes into my Jeep while crawling through a trail, and I'm liable to clench and pucker through the rest of the section too.
