My 89 Jeep XJ's 4.0 litre is pretty much done with. It runs, but it's just plain wore out. No more power anymore. I've been playing with my options. a v8 conversion, swapping in a High output 4 litre, or just getting a long block replacement stock 4 litre. (by far the easiest). I'd love to do a supercharger, but I don't want to fork out the 5 thousand required to do so. What do you think, get another stock 4 litre, cam, header, and air filter system??? Any opinions are appreciated.

How about getting a long block 4.6 stroker engine from http://www.golenengineservice.com for $3300? You could build your own stroker of course if you feel so inclined.
As far as other performance upgrades are concerned, once you've replaced the engine take a look around my site.

I know of one guy who has a Golen 4.6L stroker engine and he likes it. I'm going to build my own 4.6L stroker in my spare time and this engine will eventually replace my 4.0 (which still runs great BTW). I'm in the process of pricing and gathering parts for it and hopefully I'll have it finished by the summer.

You can basicaly build a buget stroker fairly cheep and just a fresh stroker even with out much else will suprize you and is much much cheeper and easyier than V8 swap.
