Engine Rebuild by Grease Monkey Mobile

So I just wanted to take a brief moment to give some praise to Mike Finch at Grease Monkey Mobile. A couple months back the jeep started burning coolant on top of an already existing oil leak at the head gasket so I was thinking I'd take it in to Mike to have the head gasket swapped, but after talking some pros and cons with him, I ended up deciding on a complete rebuild. After all, the engine had over 220,000 miles on it, and while it wasn't running poorly, it had it's own unique set of quirks. Not to mention, it was just sluggish, non-responsive, and overall, no longer fun to drive.

Mike only works part time at his shop, and with my schedule, getting a time to get the rig in that was affordable to me and doable for him became a bit of a struggle, but eventually I dropped the rust bucket off for him to do his thing. As with all Jeep projects, we encountered a few obstacles, but overall nothing too drastic. Anywho, when I got the Jeep back, the engine sounded nice, but due to existing steering issues, I was still unable to drive it and, consequently, really get a feel for the new engine.

Well here we are 60 days later, the Jeep has been through it's 1000 mile service check up and oil change, the steering has been completely rebuilt, ball joints/unit bearings/axle u-joints have all been replaced...and man, this thing is like a new car again! Super responsive, sounds fantastic, better gas mileage! I really couldn't be happier. And now that I can confidently say so, I just wanted to give props to Mike and let anyone who might be looking into an engine rebuild know, Grease Monkey does a great job at a great price!

Mike Willy51/GreaseMonkey Finch does do solid work, and cares that stuff turns out right. And I agree... when you coming out to wheel again, Mike SanDiegoXJ Spaulding???? GoatFest is this weekend, you can always camp out at the Motel 6 or what have you in Yucko Valley!!

I second the motion. Finch does excellent work. He has revived 3 of my antique cars including a protype Willys M38A1 and got them purring.

Is this the 'Mike Finch does good work' thread? :D

You're the dude with the MJ broken down in his driveway!!

Just kidding...

Finch has been known to hang with some pretty good company (yeah, yeah, I mean you, among others!).

Ooh, and bring me the effing key for my XJ when you come out to GF!!! I almost said "key for my effing junk", but would be scared to think of what you might think that'd be!! :scared:

See you soon!!!

It is already packed.

Soon, I hope....still have a little steering issue to work out first, and I need new tires in a BAD way....not that my tread is low, but they're all uneven and unbalanced from running with screwed up alignment....so that's my next thing, alignment and a new set of A/Ts....then I'll be back for the mild to slightly wild until I can afford to pick up another DD or move closer to a bus stop. =)

Hate to revive an old thread, but I was curious if anyone else that got a rebuild at grease monkey had a harmonic vibration issue, and if so, did they get it resolved?

Mike had been working with me to resolve it, but time and money became an issue for me, so the Jeep just got parked. Now that I need to get back to, Mike no longer has his shop. =(

He had mentioned someone else, either an engine he rebuilt, or someone that had gotten a block from Cal was having a similar issue.

I wouldn't be so worried but now my tranny is spewing fluid out the front, and I'm guessing the vibration trashed the seal and possibly the bushing.

There's a new thread in the OEM tech section too:
