I never really used ebay before, bought a couple scsi drives there a few years ago that I got burned on and thats about it.
I have been looking over Ebay for some TJ stuff, nothing fancy just a few odds and ends. I figured to pick up a set of front tow hooks for the TJ so I started bidding on a set, I know they cost $50.00 from the dealer w/bolts NEW. I watched pair after pair go for over $60. I mean WTF, are those buyers stupid or something. Tires and wheels the same way, I mean HOLY S*it, to buy 4 30" tires and them have pay to have them shipped from boondocks west to out in the woods east and then pay the same price they can be gotten for locally plus shipping is unreal. I was bidding on a set of USED white upper doors, I figured that $90 was a good price, holy high price, I wasnt even close, over $140. So now I have to spend $45 to get one plastic window replaced at the local interior/upholstery shop cause I can't get the stickum off from one of those 'you will be towed' things that cities use, sheesh. I won't even go into the 'magic' mileage enhancers and horsepower devices. THey need one more button on those items for bid pages, one where you can click and ask "wtf kind of BS is this thing' button. Not to mention the the one asking $175 for a used canyon rim, sheesh, get real...

Having a bad morning, Rich? :)

eBay is a good place to show that a fool and his money are soon parted. What you've noted is nothing new. People get caught up in the "I MUST HAVE THIS ONE AND ONLY THIS ONE" mentality and lose sight of what they're really spending.

And that's not only limited to eBay, it's auctions in general. My brother wanted a rough terrain forklift, and found one listed in a farm auction. It was pretty well used, and needed a fair amount of work. It sold for 90+% of new price.

I know that. On occasion you can get a good price but most of the time you can go get it cheaper at the local 4 wh. drive place. But it does crack me up to see those idiots spend that kind of money on.....well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,junk.

I got nailed the first time-- guy used to sell CJ/YJ mirrors on the `bay- I needed a pair, and it was less than local cost...so, after I get them with taxes and shipping, it was a bit more than local, but oh well....only funny thing was the box he sent them to me in- it had an internet address on it, from where he got them....for $4 each. He sold them for over a year- sometimes they would go as high as $50 a pair.

Same thing with the lady who sold XJ pressure bottles for the 87-91 years- I emailed her, asked her how many she had, since her auction said it was new-but she kept selling "another one" every week....her reply "China never runs out-we can get plenty". Some days those bottles would hit $60+....

what a racket.

Jeff is right. Auctions in general can cause people to loose their minds. In defense of EBAY and those who sell and buy stuff on ebay, no one is pointing a gun at you to bid on what’s listed, and free will is a scary part of life. Sure there are scams and idiots on EBAY, but there are scams and idiots everywhere, everyday, everyplace, here and there. :paperwork

...and speaking of sticky, gummy glue, did you try WD-40? It's worked for me when all else seems to fail.

I'm just worried about making the clear plastic windows opaque so I have been somwhat cautious in my approach, it also has one tear that was repaired with the clear tape that is done on both sides then ironed on. It is just that whoever put that dam sticker could not have put it in a better place to block vision and make it unsafe than if they tried to. At least you can somewhat see thru the stickum but it's still annoying.

The biggest thing to be warry of is people who don't include shipping costs in the auction. I know a few people who won auctions for great buys, but then the seller charges 45$ shipping on something that should only cost 5$. I don't bid on items from people who have 0, 1% neg, or shades. Iv'e only been ripped once. But not since then. I use ebay ALL the time and will continue to use it. But I always shop around first to get an idea of pricing.

Anytime I bid on an item I always know before hand how much the cheapest retail price I can find is plus shipping. I have bought 10 or 15 things off ebay and have not once paid over that lowest price. The closest I have ever come to that lowest is about $5, and that's still worth it.

The problem is pride. People never want to be outbid and will try to always be the winner, then they overpay.

If you dont like the price, dont bid. If the guy can get 60$, I say, more power too him! A sucker is born every minute you know. ;)

There is alot of good deals on EBAY though, I just bought a 44 Quick-Lok for 220$ shipped (new) :D
