Yeah it seems like a good little welder so far haven't got to really use it a lot yet but liked how everything felt and worked while setting it up. I know I am going to be happy with this one till I can get what I really want because I'm going from the 90 amp flux Harbor Freight POS to this one lol and it is a night and day diff. I feel like I have something that not only makes stuff out of metal but it is made of metal and not 99% plastic lol

Scott: Yeah I am glad you said something about coastal because they didn't even ever come to mind to check there until you said something lol. That pawn shop you were talking about I went to and check them out they only had one welder there and it was the lincoln 100. Also remember the welding wire I was talking to you about, well it wasn't the wire it works just fine on this welder so it was the welder that was having a problem with the wire. Funny they don't have this welder on their site because it says right on the welder made by Hobart lol

Guy at coastal said they are going to be having a sale next week and this welder is going to go on sale then and I can get a refund on the sale just have to take my receipt back in with me.

thats where i bought my gear,Wire, gloves/brush/tips ect, they sell the whole line of hobart. I almost bought my machine there, but the deal i got online was just too good to pass up.

Now that i have a line on a tank, I plan to buy a 10lb spool of wire there too...

Check out the welding shop on 82 I think their spools were a lot cheaper now that I know it was the welder not the wire lol. I'm not sure if I want to get a tank to go to hard wire or not yet, I do want to get the set ups for welding aluminum sometime here. I'm going to be getting the ten pound spools now to though it is a $50 savings over using the two pound spools.

I will check.

You might want to check into a bottle .030 is way cheeper but on the other hand inter shield burns hotter. I use to use it in my old weld pack 100 did real good up to 1/4"

Dave

That is the reason I am not sure if I want to switch to hard wire or not.

.030 please lol. I usualy drop a size in wire and run hotter to try and burn more of the base material in, so I typically run 0.30 to 3/8" which is pushing it big time, but works good for me on my 175. There is so many variables its crazy. Glad you found a welder! I never thought about a pawn shop though.....good idea.

Yeah I got one but I didn't get mine at the pawn shop. The one pawn shop I went to only had one welder there and it was a Lincoln 100. The welder I got at Coastal farm (never crossed my mine to go there lol) is a Auto Arc 130 it is made by Hobart and pain $300 for it and comes with a 3 year warranty. I'm really liking it so far seems to be a pretty good welder I even made it a little roller cart for it today lol.

I understand the thought of the smaller wire but in my experience it doesn't work. The smaller filler wire heats faster then the parent metal and in turn you need to speed the fpm. All I ever ended up with is a hot shallow surface weld that looks good to the eye but has no penetration.

I have never used a sp-175+ but by looking at the specs you should be able to use .035 hard wire or core wire no problem. I have no problem burning 030 and welding 3/8th. But when I do that I tap out my duty cycle fast maybe 5 minutes and I have to let it rest. But that's what you get with a 110 welder.

Dave

That was my only toss up for a 110 or 220 but if I would have got a 220 I would had to of put out about another $150 on stuff to wire a 220 out to the garage so that's why I stuck with the 110. In time I will get 220 wired out there and then look in to another welder. Although I have to say I have yet to hit my limit with the HF welder I had so I think I should be ok with this one.

I know I would love to be able to run hard wire but just worried about getting the penetration I want that I get with flux.

Never mind about getting wire from my work. Core wire was like $6.00 lb and solid was $ 3.00

Some of you may think I'm nuts but any way. I bought some from horrible freight to try and it seems to weld fine. The spool does say made in Itily not China. But anyway the 10 lb spools are on sale for $24.95

Yeah the hard wire is $25 but the flux is $60 so no your not nuts at all that is the same price as anywhere in fact at coastal where I got my welder they wanted like $80 for the ten pound spool of flux lol. I ended up getting the lincoln wire at Home Depot for $59. I was going to get it at HF because I have used theres before and it seem to work just fine and I had one of them 20% coupons but even know their computers said they had three spools of the 10 pound .035 flux they couldn't seem to find it anywhere. Someone riped off my welding wire from HF before I could buy it.
