The Dust Junkies/Fat City Racing team is down to the last week before we start heading south to defend the Baja 1000 Jeepspeed Championship they won in 2009. This year, they we be driving the Dust Junkies Racing PRP Wrangler rather than Fat City Racing's Ten Factory/Motive Gear Cherokee.
Under the supervision of Jeff Ranney at LJ Engineering, the car is ready, the local crew is down to prepping spares. Prep on the PRP Wrangler was extensive, the engine is fresh, everything else on the powertrain/drivetrain/suspension was either overhauled or replaced. Marlin Crawler provided us with a new transmission, fresh gear sets from Motive Gear went into the Diamond Axle 9" housings. The Rubicon Express suspension and King Racing shocks were overhauled. New BFG tires were mounted on Raceline custom racing wheels. We even got new seats from PRP that match the fresh paint job.
There is enough Baja experience on the Dust Junkies/Fat City Racing teams that we have all of our bases covered. It's amazing how much work and planning is required to get a team ready for Baja. Besides car prep there is race registration, arranging for support crews to cover 1000 miles in a foreign country, accommodations in Ensenada and LaPaz for a crew of 6 trucks, 19 people, a trailer, and the race car. Purchasing/staging fuel, staging spares, prepping support vehicles, obtaining travel documents, insurance, and the list goes on.
Driver's will start heading south next week to pre-run the course. Support crews will be heading down throughout the week of the race.
We've got Larry McRae from Poison Spider joining the team. Larry will be co-dogging the first section with car owner/driver and defending Baja 1000 Champion Scott Hartman.
Ralf Kueller, straight from Germany, will be driving the second leg with Rock Buggy Supply owner and Dust Junkie team member Scott Parker co-dogging. Ralf is a star driver in the German/European off road world. Scott Parker is one of the coolest/calmest under pressure co-dogs in the desert.
Fat City Racing team member, accomplished 2 wheel racer and also a defending Baja Champ, Jeff Lessley, will pilot the car through the third leg, with Dust Junkies Racing team member Clem Grieco co-dogging. Jeff and Clem are both life long off-roaders. Jeff knows what it takes to win Baja, and Clem is an animal, he'll do anything needed to keep the car moving.
Defending Jeepspeed Baja 1000 Champion and driver of record, Eric Filar, will take the car to the finish with Fat City Racing's Ron Lessley co-dogging. Eric and Ron both know how to get a race worn car to the finish. They've experienced the thrill of winning the Baja 1000, and are determined to do it again!
As always a special thanks to our sponsor's that helped us get here.
PRP racing seats, Rubicon Express suspension, Raceline Wheels, Marlin Crawler Transmissions, Painless Performance, JE Reel Drivelines, Motive Gear, TEN Factory, Shockseals.com, National Drivetrain, King Shocks, Rockbuggysupply.com, LJ Engineering, Loosenuts enterprises, Delta Lights, and our friends and families that allow us to live the dream.
