Drive shaft woes

So, I took the 8 1/4 diff. out of my 91 XJ and I replaced it with a DANA 35 with 4:10 gears and an ARB. Now the slip joint drive shaft is a little to long and it eats up the rear seal on the 231 with a TARA low range. Does anyone have a drive shaft left over from a tail shaft shorting or what ever on an XJ that had a DANA 35 that I could get for cheap. I plan on putting a shorter tail shaft in the 91 in 2006 sometime but cann't come up with the $s for it and the new shaft right now. I posted it here because I cann't drive to far without stopping to put oil in the T-case and someone must have the shaft I need close to Longmont. THANKS

I went to the 35 because it was sitting in the garadge and I didn't have the money for the blown 4;10 gears or the ARB for the 8.25s plus the C-clip elimenator to keep an axle from falling out of the housing if it broke. By the way it came out of an 84 XJ and has more than 150k on it since the 4:10 and ARB were installed. Before that it had 55k on a set of 4;56s plus the time on the stock 3:73s. I've seen nothing wrong with the DANA 35s but I know they're weaker than the 8 1/4s and the DANA 44s. If I up-grade, I rather go to the 8.8 or 9 inch because of thier support bearing.

RangerRick: Have you located a source of C-Clip eliminators for a 8.25? I can't find any.

BTW: I took a DS out of a 99' manual 231, D35 setup, and it was an inch and a half too long for my 98' auto, 231, 8.25 setup. After I got back from CO fest, I took it down for shortening/use as I carved up my old one. I believe the rear u-joint may be different also. Atleast it was in my case.

Let me know what length you think you need, I have a couple. I have one from a D44 that is pretty short.

As for the C-clip elimenater for an 8.25, I haven't found a soars. I started a thead on the modified form with no luck yet , but one reply said DANA made them. As for the drive shaft problem; originally I had installed a TARA low range in my 91 and figured "Hay, why not drop the T-case an inch an put the 2 degree sims on the rear springs while I'm at it untill I can aford a double cardin shaft." At the Fall Fling I hit the cross member on so many times that I hated having 1" less ground clearence. So, yesterday I pulled the spacers and shims out and now I no longer have a problem with the shaft. I figure the difference in length at about
1 1/2 inchs. Thanks for all the comments and help.
Rick
