Doorless

I assume you kept yours on 29" tires... since of course, it was designed that way.

Its amazing the difference in visibility when wheeling a technical trail. If you don't wheel technical trails, well... then I suppose your doing it just for the "cool factor".

When I take mine off, there is no mud and rain. Thats the point of "removable" - i put em back on when it gets cold.

Those vehicles don't fit my particular needs - but thank you for telling me what I should have purchased...

How many damn times do we have to go over this... The doors do not add rigidity to the unibody.

Bingo.

I wheel tons of technical trails, mostly in my CJ. It's very well built for such things, and is very nice without the top and doors on. I built the XJ as an additional wheeler, for snow runs, camping trips, and other lighter duty wheeling. As far as structural integrity, I was refering more to the post earlier where someone mentioned cutting the roof off.

You can unbunch your panties now...:D

Katie... who is going to remove/reinstall these doors for you? The front ones weigh over 75 pounds....

I have drilled out the pins in mine, now I have some ball bearing pins that I can remove and pop the doors off in less than a minute. Its not to hard, you just need to find someone to help you/do it for you..

I have been trying to do this for awhile but cannot for the life of me get a torx bit in well enough to not strip it. I would really like to get these doors off when I cut the top off but it is giving me quite a hassle. Did you guys have any issues with the bits stripping out or am I going about this the wrong way?
I watched/helped a bodyguy do my brothers hinge pins as well as reweld them back to the body, he used a torch to heat up the bolts then they came out easy!

I doubt they weigh more then 75 pounds. They are heavy, but not that heavy.

Boo-Yaa

Did you weigh yours or find this info online?

Yeah on truck scale with them on then with them off. Checked the weight Was trying to see if i had them off if they would alleviate the weight for an aftermarket bumper. it helps but its just so nice on those 90* days to have those doors off.

No kidding... I wish my a/c sucked so I had a better excuse to keep them off all summer...

How backwards is that... Perfect cold a/c.... No heat whatsoever... haha

My a/c sucked right off the bat, so I converted it to OBA. Gives me a good excuse to take them off, but now, I don't think I could make it in the summer with the doors on....especially with no carpet. It definitely helps with visibility as well (the real reason I did it), and it's much better (and actually safer) than sticking your head out the window .

And yeah, you do not need to cut the wires or install a harness. You can just splice those back together, there are already plugs behind the kick panels.

I did this mod to mine. Its very hard to fight the urge to stick your foot out the door when on an off camber trail, gotta make like a tube door to keep my foot in.

Well either way, my driver's side front door has to come off anyway b/c it needs to be reset since it wasn't put on right when the idiots at the bodyshop installed it.

I don't get all of this doorless/topless stuff in an XJ. It's supposed to be a fully enclosed cab, it's designed that way. Plus, it keeps the mud, rain, and cold out when you wheel. Just buy a CJ, YJ or TJ if you must go doorless/topless, save yourself a bunch of work and keep the full structural integrity of the vehicle intact.

I guess different strokes for different folks....
Chicks dig guys with 4-Wheel drive station wagons.

:D

I wonder why he cut the harness?

I cut the harness and added a 6 pin trailer connector for easier removal. An the left of wires and just quick connects. I have power windows, lockes, and speakers. Haven't had a problem yet. Works great.

we need blurrier pics of the hinges, so we cant see whats going on better :)

Jk they look great, i did the same thing on my old jeep....i cant imagine how much those 2 door XJ doors weigh!! 4 door models are heavy enough

-Tim

Doors are very heavy. Since they are longer it is harded to see where you are going with the pins to put them on. Definitely a 2 man job. But I always got some one around the house to help.

No doors is kinda freaky sometimes, so I needed something that kinda split the difference. It's nice to have a junk XJ sitting around :)
