doing headgasket on 86 nissan micra, noticed small crack on block need advice

ok i have a 86 nissan micra im doing a headgasket on and I noticed after cleaning the top of the block before i put the new headgasket on a crack between two cylinders, the cylinder liners look fine but there is a noticable crack.

does that mean there is no point throwing the head back on

I'm absolutely no help with your headgasket issue, but:

Nissan sold the Micra in North America? Or is this one a Jap import?

I remember those cars. That generation of them was particularly awful.

ya they sold a few..possibly just in canada..its hard to find some parts and I couldnt find a manual anywhere..had to download a haynes manual from a UK website

and I took some pics and showed the journeyman mechanic at my work and the block is done..im scaping the car

Yeah, I did some poking around and it looks like it was a Canada-only model in North America. Somehow I think I'd run across this before - everything I was digging up looked oddly-familiar.

Frankly, you may be better off trying to find a low-mileage ex-Japan engine for it than taking on the head gasket repair. That model in Japan was the Nissan March (I vividly remember being stuck behind Jap-import models in Dublin back in the '90s), so check accordingly.

We used to have a real problem in Ireland with manufacturers not keeping parts stocks for discontinued models for more than 3-5 years after the model was killed off - and I seem to recall that the runout on that particular one was somewhere around 1991 or 1992. Going the ex-Japan engine route was often cheaper and easier than trying to repair a problem, and they were almost without exception low-mileage and very well-maintained.

I just need it out of my garage so i can start building my XJ up

was hoping to make a quick buck selling it but its only really worth maybe 500-700bucks so after putting my time and money into throwing a engine it it i wont get anything
