dodge dakota trans help

so i blew up the trans in my 88 dodge dokota 5 speed, i need one from 87 to 91 to be the same, and looking at the 92 to about 96 dakota's the trans diffrent on the way it mounts to the bell housing.
my question is since the motor's the same could i get a 92 to 96 trans and bell housing and have it bolt strait to my motor?

I believe they are different between the non-magnum and magnum motors, so do not know if it will bolt in. There are also adapter housings/plates to use other models of trans. as well.
If the trans is a different model, then you may or may not need a new pilot bushing, different clutch and or swap to an external slave cyl. (dont know when they changed, but I know for sure the later models at some point are ext slave.) I would recommend checking out the forums over at www.dakota-durango.com I do not know as much about the First gen dakotas as the 2nd gen-current.
