Dodge 9.25

I think we covered this in Mod Tech a time or two. I seem to remember it being the right width or close but different lug pattern and not as much aftermarket support as the 8.25/D-44/8.8
 
If it is out of a Dakota it will have the 6 on 4.5" bolt circle....definantely odd.

Yep. looked at the 9.25 out of my durango.. heard its a beefy axle. but the 6 lug thing is the fail point for me..
 
Haven't done it yet but I'm looking at putting a Chrysler 9.25 under mine. out of a 76 PowerWagon, width is 64" wms, drum brakes, 5 on 4.5. Still haven't decided if I'll go through with building it, I haven't put any money into it yet. Biggest problem is the lack of aftermarket parts.
 
9.25 would be a good swap if you can find the right lug pattern or deal with the 6 lug. it would be much stronger then an 8.8 or d44. infact i have read that the shafts are as big as D60 shafts (dont know how true this is)

A standard Dana 60 is 30 spline... the same as a Dana 44. IIRC, the 9.25 is 31 spline, the same as an 8.8. The 8.8 has the same size tubes as a 9.25, but it is already the correct bolt pattern for a Jeep vehicle, already has disc brakes, and is the correct width too. Not to mention that other than the 9 inch, the 8.8 has more aftermarket support than any other axle on the market. Because of this, parts are cheap and very easy to find. If you are going to put in a stock axle and don't mind having a different bolt pattern in the front than in the rear, then I guess its ok if you already got it, but if you plan to build it up, I wouldn't waste my time. Parts for the 9.25 cost much much more than an 8.8, and you are very limited on what you can get...

Just my 2 cents worth. Dollar for dollar the 8.8 is a better swap.
 
IMO if you're gonna do an axle swap, dont waste money on another crappy chrysler rear end...
heh? the 8.25/8.75/9.25/10.etc etc are all extremely great axles.. alot of people here run stock 8.25's with 35"s no problem..

a dana 35 was NOT a chrysler axle. it was a DANA axle.
 
yea yea, ive ran them also...they broke just as quickly in real wheelin as a d35...but anyways, my point was...if you're ready to upgrade...dont waste time and money on an ODD rear end that is still a Cclip axle...especially when d60 rears and d44 rears can be found all day for very very cheap!...

i guess im crazy, i only like to upgrade once....

im not sayin DANA's are king...there's alot of really crappy DANA's: d35, d50, d25, d27, d61, d53...

i think your orignal post against chrysler axles, was more against using them as an "upgrade" to a jeep. in that case, i can agree, it was said already in this thread the D44 and 8.8 are a better swap for the money. that i can agree with, strength wise tho, the 9.25 is superior to both axles. thus, why it was installed in alot of dakota's/durango's and Ram's it was a great axle for the power of the 360.

i think you said that "the 9.25 has the same size shafts as a 60"...as an arguement for the 9.25 being strong, that means nothing...the 60s strength lies in the fact that its a full floating axle...which means there is no vehicle or load weight on the axle shaft...only rotational force...whereas the semifloat axles (Cclip or non Cclip) there is vehicle weight on the shaft at all times...PLUS rotational force...
