DIY HD Press Brake

Just finished welding my new HD press brake, it needs a few finishing touches but it works!

This should make bumpers a lot easier to build.

It is as big as it looks, 60" wide, 45" tall and about 500lbs. The die is from Swag Offroad and is the 40" version. It is a 40 ton machine (80,000lbs)

Nice work. I recommend sticking a rule down each side so you can adjust the jacks evenly. Air over hydro would be sweet.

Thats not a bad idea at all!

I got the return springs on and it works great now. All it needs is a stand so I'm not bending over to use it.

The plan is to replace the jacks with hydraulics as soon as I can set aside the cash for that upgrade.

Does the swag offroad kit come with specs to build the press? Or would you be willing to give a breakdown of what steel you used to make yours? Looks great and like it would come in handy for a lot of stuff.

Nope, I just went to the local steel supply and found two I beams and a C channel. It was all rems at $.35 a pound.

It is 55" wide inside width, the I beams are 1/4" thick on the top and 3/8" on the bottom the sides are 3/8" c channel.

Pretty basic setup.

I had a new rear bumper design in cad today and was going to cut it but my CNC controller board fried one of the axis, so monday ill be getting a replacement board... and then ill be able to see how this works for bumper building.

Do you think it would be possible to put 2 of the 40" press pieces end to end and have an 80" brake for making stuff like frame stiffeners? Not sure how I would run 4 jacks at the same time tho. Maybe a bar that could link all the jack assemblies together?

Maybe as long as the pressure it distributed across it you might be good, or just buy a real die 80 wide. I plan to later on get a 48".

That would be a massive press though, I would go with hydraulics instead of bottle jacks.

For longer stuff, ill just plasma cut it and then take it to the local steel supply and use there 100ton cnc press. They are pretty fair on prices for bending.
