That'll work with Android devices, but not with iOS. iOS needs the WiFi.

Finally got to the bottom of the connection issue by driving the Jeep to the middle of a big park, away from other WiFi networks to isolate the signal (yes, there is one) emitted by the ELM. The documentation that came with the Unit on disc identifies the network as "WiFi OBD." But the actual network name is "KONNWEI WIFI." It's no wonder I wasn't able to identify it among the 20 or so networks sending signals in my parking garage.
