Dilemma. . . could use advice about moving cross country and selling/buying things.

yeah.. i am starting to think the same thing.
It not just tires though. i'd have to sell. bicycle, surfboard, snowboard, all my dishes, pots, pans, and a bunch or random jeep parts. .

Sorry to say, but it doesn't sound like you are gonna be able to afford surfing or snowboarding. I'd keep the bike and maybe try and ship the pots and pans depending on how much money you have in them. Jeep parts I would sell unless you are going to need them to maintain your vehicle. Sell the big tires and drive on your stock size tires until you can afford to spin the big ones again as a daily driver and have spare cash to go wheeling.

Do you mind if I ask what kind of job you had and what you are looking to go do?

I was working as a Landscape Architect in a firm in Newport beach for a while. Doing everything from conceptual design, to CAD working documents, to city submittals, and construction management. . . . Before that I was involved with a design/build construction company, and before that machine operation and landscape forman. I'm 27yo now.

I'm not sure what I am going to do next. I am open to most anything right now. I have a Bachelors of Science from University of Connecticut and have been taking finance/business classes on the side for a while. Just a seriously hard time to find work right now.

I contacted a couple of storage people and I guess i can get a 20x10 unit that i can park a car in and stack all my things.. for $320 a month. Anyone know of anything cheeper?

I was then thinking I could get a roofrack and something like this

anyone think poorly of this thing?

and then sell my set of wheeling tires and all my unnecessary things. . and hopefully fit everything else in the rig for the trip if necessary. .

I bought a 5x10 trailer new for 800 bucks, that was a few years ago though. I used it for over a year and then sold if for almost the same amount of cash. Just something to think about.

if anyone was curious .... that funny looking black box trailer up top is actually a police speed trap. the top extends but the solar panel was removed. the readar gun fits in that little hole on the top left and the glass window held the speed indicator.. the thing had some deep cycle batteries and electronics in it... i did some research.. was curious..

ah, nice! thanks for the info haha. would be a good place to put a flatscreen and dvd player or computer to watch the days wheeling vids back at camp i think! i used to haul around a projector and we would watch the days wheeling vids on the side of a trailer or a big dune. good times.

yeah... lol.. i actually just emailed the owner of it.. he says the thing is still filled with the electrics.. just missing the solar panel the radar gun and "stop your going to fast" sign.

for $50 someone should buy it just for a fun little project. the thing actually has some pretty interesting axel suspension... check it out..

back to my delema.. i need someone to sell me some bfg all terrains.?? 31s or 32s??? and take my 32mtrs away from me. i will post a for sale shortly

Sucks to hear about the job issue. I hope the best for you.

My advice - PRIORITIZE!!!!

Is your goal to get back home or keep everything you can? Not trying to be a smarta$$.

I would say sell the things you can replace or will not need for a while. Tires, bicycle, surf board, snowboard, etc... fairly easy to replace when needed and able. You might be surprised with how much money you can get from selling. I made $300 just a few weeks having a yard sale.

You can rent or buy a small trailer and tow it behind your XJ. It will be cheaper than renting a big truck and towing your Jeep. If you buy a trailer, you can always sell it when you make it to your destination, if need be.

How long can you wait? Are you looking for other employment here or decided to head East for sure? If heading East, you will want to get there before the holiday and winter season kicks in.

Whatever you decide, I hope the best for you.

Good luck!

It looks like what I am going to do is sell most everything i have right now..
i have most of it up on craigslist as we speak. I am going to also try to sell all 10tires and rims that i have right now and get one decent set for all around use. something like 31x10.5 or 32x11.5 bfgs.
i am going to try and limit all my things down to just stuff i can fit inside the jeep and then try and find a resonably priced safari rack(hopefully billy gets desperate and cuts me a great deal on his) and maybe this thing..

you think this would be decent for light items?

then I am thinking that I will be ready so i can either just jump in and go..
or i can pull the rig into a storage unit while i am gone..

Either way it feels good sometimes to be liberated of a lot of your material things. Know that you can fit all you own into the back of a xj..lol

DONT GO UHAUL... Use penske. our quote was less than half through penske

If you NEED a trailer, buy one and sell it on the flip side for what you paid for it.

I've done the storage thing. Moved from NJ to CA. Paying for storage sucked. And, eventually I stumbled across the stuff I had in storage out here for waaaaay less money that what I'd had into the storage unit.

I have room for your jeep if you want to fly home.. The rent will make you cry... FREE

If you get a small trailer for your stuff, you can store that here too.. Again high rent FREE..
You can fly out of palm springs to get home..I'll evan drive you there.. This would also be free...Then when you come back i'll pick you up.. This will cost you... LOL...
I drink pepsi....
Sorry to hear you lost your job.. I hope this is some type of help...
