Diesel Swap idea

Thanks for the rationalization... That's what I've been thinking, as well. Which is why I thought that selling the XJ for around 9k and picking up a diesel Cruiser for around the same price would make more sense economically speaking...

Like you could get 9k out of an XJ these days... dream big, cause thats all that is... a dream

Those are pretty interesting possibilities. Any idea as to the weights of those engines?

i don't have a weight on the 4D55 but It's not anything close to something like a 4BT. You could find them in either a Mitsu pick-up or a Ford Ranger up to about 1987. It's one weak point would be the timing belt instead of a chain.

The Mercedes runs about 500 lbs, makes about 120 hp and around 170 ft-lbs torque.

I run a XJ in the UK with the factory VM 2.5TD diesel - it runs on veg oil. In summer (for what little summer we get) I run 90/100% veg. In winter 80%.

It is one of the best engines to run veg - IDI (indirect injection) and a Bosch fuel pump. As good as old Merc engines.

That's some good information. Sounds like a fairly simple swap... I wonder why I've never heard of anyone swapping a 4D55 in an XJ before...

That brings up another interesting possibility... I imagine it would be hard to find one of those in the states though. Any ideas on where to find/how to get one and on the ease of the swap?
