I've got a job offer up in the DFW area. Exact location isn't decided yet, but will probably be working in Arlington, Mansfield or Grand Prairie the first year. Company advised me to live somewhat central in the DFW area for transfer and promotion opportunities.

Been looking alot at Irving/Las Colinas, anyone live in that area with some advice on good apartments? Where else should I be looking.

I'm young and single and don't want to live somewhere too boring, so a community with some nightlife is appreciated.

Thanks.

I live in Irving right next to Las Colinas. It's a nice area with money and lots of 5-0. las colinas has some spendy apartments. there are some nice bars and some good restaurants, which has some night life, but don't expect much from it.

Also, I'd love to find a place that will let me park 2 vehicles so I don't have to sell my XJ/can bring it out to Tx and wheel with ya'll.

How much do you want/expect to pay for rent, some 2-3 bedroom homes can cost the same as some of the apartments. Some apartments will give you two spaces, and some will charge a small fee per month for the extra space.

Yeah, I'm trying to find one that will let me rent an extra space, or preferably a garage plus a space.

I thought about the house, but.. its just me. I'd be paying quite a bit of utilities for a bigger place, to heat/cool spaces that I don't need and are not using.

Other option is a storage unit to keep it in.

With any luck I'll be looking to buy a place this time next year.

Well, I have lived in the mid-cities area for the last 15 years so, my best suggestion would be DO NOT MOVE TO IRVING!!!!!!! If you want a a good apartment with the possibility for a garage, I would suggest Euless. There are several apartments off of Ash Lane, with garages, that I could recommend depending on your price range. The area is nice, your close to everything, and the rent is reasonable. Just PM if you want some more info...

EDIT: Euless is about 10 minutes from Irving, Las Colinas, Grand Praire, and Arlington. Its about 20 minutes from Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Mansfield.

Whats wrong with Irving? I'd like to pay less than $900 a month. Thats my ceiling for the perfect place. Whatever I spend less means more goes into the savings to buy a house.

I've looked a bit at Euless, but haven't found as many apartments there.

I just personally dislike Irving, but i spent most of my childhood there so...

There are a ton of apartments in the HEB area (Hurst, Euless, Bedford). Hurst is, IMO, a little too far to drive if you are having to drive to Grand Prairie on a daily basis. But then again, that's just me. I have lived in Euless/Bedford area for the past 4 years, and I love it. Everything is very close by, plus Mike's Off Road is just a 5 minute drive away. If you are looking for a one bedroom apartment with a garage or even a two bedroom apt. with a garage, There are several places I could recommend. I was paying 1000 a month for an 1100 sqft 2/2 with a garage so a one bedroom with a garage should be a lot less...

How do you feel about Addison?

If it were me, I would start looking somewhere along I20 west of HWY 360 and east of HWY 287, most of these places are pretty nice and quiet, and Arlington has alot to offer as far as things to do. Apartments probably will be cheaper than North Dallas' too.

I've been told to avoid Arlington because while cheaper it also has a ghetto element.

I'm absolutely frustrated by looking at apartments. Every time I think I'm honed in on a place, someone else I know starts telling me that its not a good area

Leaning towards "The Village" apartments in North Dallas.

I know it will be a bit of a drive, but after living in Los Angeles, it won't phase me. Plus my first year I'll be working nights, so much less traffic to deal with.

The good news is I found a complex that isn't opposed to me parking a second vehicle. So, my Jeep should be out this way in about 6 months.

ah. well im with mosephus on this one. i lived in the heb area for about 4 years before i made the move to pittsburgh and when i get back in january ill be moving back there. bedford and euless are the nicer two of the three cities that are intermingled. my favorite place was a townhouse off of 360 and trinity. and ash ln does have some nice places with a garage. ill be finding one of those soon. heb is very central. 30 minutes or so from everything that has to do with nightlife and food and yes, mikes is right there. only had them build a shifter for me but it was cheap and they did good work. i vote heb for what its worth

Well, I officially have a place.

I'll be living up in North Dallas, just above SMU. Since I'm working nights for the first year the commute won't be bad, and I got a 7 month lease in case I hate it, then I can move (or hopefully buy a house). Best part is they have parking for multiple vehicles per resident so I can bring my Jeep out in the next few months!

Thanks for the advice in the thread. Let me know when there's a Dallas Meet and Greet, I'll be there.
