Ok, so on my 92 XJ, my front U-joints are getting crappy (260's). I definitely want to upgrade to 297's (760's), so I will need new axle shafts. From what I've gathered, stock Spicer shafts will cost around 300. I can get Yukon chrmo shafts w/ 760's full circle clipped for 500. Anyone have Yukon's? I figure the extra coin is worth the piece of mind. If I go chrmo, I can't decide between Yukon or Superior, any suggestions, and where did ya get em. TIA.

or get some used shafts and get some CTM... 370 for a pair..

That's what I will be doing.

The Yukon outers are on backorder till may. I have 3 sets of inners coming in tuesday. I am fitting them with superior outers but its $$$.

OEM spicer shafts with 760's should only be around $250

you need manual hubs to run CTM's on the street right? I believe you can run full circle clipped 760's just like normal joints.
Rawbrown, you were the guy I talked to before. Do you carry OEM shafts? Can ya full circle clip them too? Is the Superior stuff more expensive?

yes the superior stuff is more expensive. I am eating the difference because I promissed this month.

yes I can full circle clip oem shafts. thats what I am doing to my own set. I am putting in chromo inners and OEM outer but will full clip the outers along with the inners. but in my I will upgrade the outers to CrMo.

Warn alloy shafts take full circlips and don't get the "ears" all beat up like the stockers when the u-joints break, which is what will break first, not the axles. Having to buy two sets of stock axles will buy alloys the first time around.

not from what I have read. All you have to do is grind down the C clips bumps on the ears fo the shafts to make them work.

I got 2 sets of OEM 297 axle shafts for $100.00 each/set from my local wrecking yard. One set I run, and the other set I carry as spares. :dunno:
I also carry my old 260 shafts just in case.
Just a thought. HTH.
Thanks,
Dan.
