Cutting Torch

Looking at getting a cutting/welding torch set up.

Is it worth it to get one of those portable kits or will I burn through that gas too quick?

Yes! I get so damn tired of having to fill those little bottles!!! I run thru a set of bottles in a couple days of working with it. It doesn't last anytime!

I would LOVE to find a set of big tanks!

In fact, mine are empty now...

I bought a ProWeld kit off of ebay for $60 and then found the tanks locally for real cheap, $30.

The torches do just fine and can cut really clean, I haven't welded with them yet. My acetylene tank lasts longer than the oxy, i usually go through 2 oxy to one acetylene.


They are the biggest tanks you can own and get filled without issue. Our local AirGas exchanges them with me so I know I always have a tank that has been recently certified and it is relatively cheap to exchange them.

Hmm, I have been wanting a torch... why you have to tell me about one that is $60 when I am broke? :lecture: The cheapest I have seen was around $200.

Really? Mine drive me crazy. Sure they cut nice but one serious project using the torch and it's almost empty the next time I use it. Keep in mind I use the hell out of the torch when I use it.

Buy you some large tanks, you'll regret the little ones if you use them much. Don't buy new ones or rent/lease tanks though. Find used ones on craigslist or something. I picked up a set of tanks, a cart, regulators, and a torch for $200 at a garage sale. And they are the large tanks, I can fill them and not worry about it for a few months at a time.
