custom exhaust

So, I've gotten bored in the past with my exhaust. I first had the dynomax super turbo cat-back but had to cut the tip because of shackle interference. Eventually it ended up that my exhaust now dumps directly over the rear axle and i'm looking to do some kind of custom exit.

However, as many jeep owners know, there aren't many routing options for exhaust in our rigs. I'd like to see what you've done, or maybe someone you know has done. I'd really like a side exit directly behind the rear wheel but let me see what you got!

anyone?

I ran mine out the back in the stock location. If you get the tail-pipe hanger from the dealer then the tip shouldn't interfere with the shackles. The only potential problem I see is with the gas skid, but that is also stock Mopar so I expect it to fit.

No it's longer shackles. Now, anyone have anything that isn't considered stock? I really don't wanna just chop it underneath the jeep. I want it to come out the side or at least be interesting. Post pictures!

I know not everyone on here has stock exhaust setups. please, pictures.

I'll snap a couple later today. Nothing special, just a cherry bomb turbo with a custom tailpipe. It runs between the shackle and gas tank skid, ending at the shackle. No rubbing on either.

To clear longer shackles and still keep your exhaust in the stock location just do like I did. Go to Advance Auto or Autozone and get a tail pipe piece to fit your 2.5" exhaust, cut the tail pipe at the hanger. Then put the new extension in your bench vise and squeeze it into a "oval" shape and install it. Trim it down as needed to keep it from hanging up on departure from obstacles. I use a heavy duty "worm clamp" at the hanger to both hold the tail piece on and the hanger, the worm clamp will not rub your springs like a U clamp will.

Here is a pic of my old trail rig so you can kinda see what I'm talking about.

On my 90' XJ I have a high flow cat, flowmaster 40 and all custom bends to the back and a slight turn down. It sounds real good, I get asked if I have a small V-8 in it a lot. It doesn't have that buzzturd sound on accel like most flowies do.

My 4.0 has been bored, decked, milled and I'm running a air tube as well.

Mine is 2.5" and is chopped right at the rearmost hanger.

I've got some yummy side pipe action for ya! :D It's pretty stout you just gotta rebend the tip everynow and then when it has some one on one time with rocks, but besides that she takes a beating down there and never lets me down....

mine points straight down right after the muffler. kicks up a little more dust than normal but it doesnt bother me any, but it does make the exhaust a lot louder IN the truck.
