Ok so I did a few serches and didn't find what I was looking for.
I saw on JU this link (below) that the guy took the bed of an MJ and made a trailer out of it. That got the gears turning about making a camper out of it. Kinda do what he did but but the topper on the right way to get in and out of it easyer. This way the woman might go car camping with me more. I could put an air matress in it or even a futon matress would be kick butt.
THinking about a tool box on the frount for storage. and even propain and a grill for cooking and what not. SO has anyone done this or got pics of something like this.
I've seen a few MJ bodys around and might be able to pick one up for cheap.

I'm really hoping to pick up an old military trailer and turn it into something like this:

Have an ice chest on front, spare tire, air compressor, and maybe propane for a bbq or heater or something.

Here's a couple of ideas for you. This couple built the first one in the old "Teardrop" style of the 50's. My wife likes the idea of being enclosed and the fact that you could run a small electric heater off a generator.

Next one is from Gojeep's site and the trailers he's built for use around Australia. Check out the hitch he built that allows the trailer to twist and turn seperate from the tow vehicle.

Neither of these use a PU bed but they're ideas you might consider.

Not done yet... but still having fun doing it

ya that orange one was one I saw back some time ago. didn't know who owned it and couldn't find it in a search. THat is pretty cool but wasn't sure if it would be long enough.

Alrighty... Update my site to have pictures of the trailer while in progress. Have a look :)

Hey Steve, that is a pretty darn neat looking idea there. It is interesting how the MJ roof is apparently a little taller than an XJ roof. I wonder how Goatman matched roof lines? I think he may have cut the MJ roof line down some. Looks like you sliced the XJ roof back a ways and bent it up to meet the MJ roof. Anyway, here is a note about my MJ bed trailer:

If you can access the yahoogroups madxj, I have a number of pics of my long bed MJ trailer there. I built a HEAVY front hitch that bolts onto the MJ frame. The heaviness of the unit is for tongue weight. It works good, but I am still running the stock MJ rear end with the gears turning all the time. I plan to build a new rear axle with FSJ spindles bolted to the ends so I can run FSJ hubs/bearings which would match my six bolt axles under my XJ. Also, the stock shocks on the MJ trailer are shot so the trailer will pitch and roll quite a bit with a load in it. I think the stock spring pack is a bit soft for a trailer. I plan to add some leaves to it and perhaps go spring over, but perhaps not to keep the tailgate lower for loading stuff in and out. You'll have to look in the files section under Jeff's Jeep mods once in the yahoogroups. Jeff

Oh, there is also an old thread on here showing a couple other MJ bet trailers. One guy built a frame and bolted the MJ bed to it while the other guy used the whole back half of the MJ like I did. Jeff

Steve - are you going to keep the standard XJ rear cargo hatch, or build it into a smaller door?

Standard hatch will be staying. I've even thought about getting one of those Jeep tents and using with in conjunction with the trailer. It will expand the space for camping. But the biggest reason for the trailer will be wheeling. When we wheel, it's in a large group. Most everyone has a huge amount of gear that goes with them. This would make it easier for everyone to stow gear in there and drop the trailer and go.

Roof rack would be cool to have on that thing aswell.

Already have it in mind. Both the trailer and Jeep will be getting the same custom roof rack. There are a couple of tube benders in the area :D

an air tank with maybe an arb air compressor or something like that would be cool get back to camp air up hook up and head home. GOD this has so many options it's crazy.

If you did a roof rack maybe mount a few lights on a extendable or folded down arm so if you get to camp late at night just pop that up and boom light to set up camp.

I must stop now.

Naw.. keep going if you want :D I'm open to suggestions. We thought about keeping the gas tank in and making it and reserve fueling station

Thats going to be one heavy little trailer!

ya that is something to take into account is the weight that this thing is going to be hauling and what not. Thats why I was thinking the truck bed cut off most of the unneeded weight and then go with a fiberglass top. I could even swap out the rear axle on that for a straight axle with just a block lift fit some 30s on it. That would help with some weigh issues. At that point I should be regeard and sholdn't have a problem towing it. I've seen XJ's tow some big boats and what not, and I know what I end up with is still going to be much lighter than some of the boats I've seen.
