Coyote Hunting

Philip, nothing to LOL about. If you are interested lets get together sometime. This weekend it a birthday party for matt and we have 5 guys going. That really is the max I like to put behind my two dogs. Here is a link to a few of our hunts this year out at Steel Fork (a hunt club out in Rush), I am a member at. http://raganoutdoors.com/family/Gallery/birdhunting I also try to get out from time to time on wild birds. If you or any one else is interested let plain a hunt. I am out at least 1 time a month to keep the girls on birds.

Matt thanks for the comment towards the dogs and my training. Would not say "awesome" yet.. They are steady on point til I flush the bird (which really is what matters), however I they still need work, they are not perfect. My thought is right now my shot is about 50-70% on and the dogs are 85-90% completed. Looks like I could use some more work also...

Honestly anyone interested in a bird hunt behind dogs lets talk. When it comes to rec time the only thing I have more passion for then Jeeps is bird hunting.

dammit he needs a vizsla, he can have mine, bitch is driving me crazy.
:wierd:

Your trying to get rid of a vizsla? how old is it. My boss brought one back from hungry with him years ago and ended up giving him away, and now he wants another one. Family situation and living area changed to allow him to have one. Shoot me a PM with info if your really into getting rid of the dog, and I'll pass it along to my boss when he gets back from CA.

not really seriously but I'd love to send her off to be trained in the field or run her with a good dog to see what she can do, she's so high energy and not getting the excercize she needs.
She points at a flashlight on a wall she's so bored.

damn thing is a 70lb lap dog. She's also quite dumb, LoL

here's the annoying one:

Man I haven't hunted birds in like 15 years.
back in MT my dad used to hunt birds every sat and sun all season long and a lot of week days if he met his quota early, lol.
he ran shorthairs for awhile then switched to springers, hunting without dogs just isn't hunting to me, half the fun is watching a good dog.

Let set something up. I can get quail for $8 each. We can set out a bird trap and see what see will do on a chuck cord, or have her run with my older girl (Betsy). Bad habits of another dog should not effect her. Good trainers can get expensive. If you want to see if she has it in her lets do it.

Philip, do not know you well but I am going to call you on this.... "dumb" or does not get the time she needs and deserves? Not being a jerk, however a good dog takes lot of time and dedication.

If she knows "come" and "woe" let get her out. If not can assist in a few simple drills to get that down in 15-20 minutes a day for a week or two. Reading your post you know the dog needs and deserves it.

no she's really the dumbest dog I've ever owned. She rates somewhere between mud and fence post. She's a fetching machine though.

I have a springer that is very intelligent but won't hunt, don't think she has "it"

the viz is still a great pup, she just needs a little patience. and a lot of money, she has allergies and gets allergy shots which is freaking expensive.

so how is the bird hunting in co? I've not hunted anything in this state.

Bird hunting varies from year to year her in Colorado. Weather can really throw things. The year is a great year for bird out North East, South East has suffered some due to hard winter. I have not out on wild birds this year due to a few things. Wife is getting in to the dogs and bird hunting and does not have hunters education yet. She is doing that next weekend. I just moved back to Colorado two years ago and have been looking for a few guys that want to get out and hunt. No fun going on your own. This with the cost of fuel for my truck, I can drive an hour out to the hunt club and they had hens for $11 for a period of time. So I knew I was going to get the dogs on birds and having a 1.5 year old pup that is important to me right now. The breeder I work with is getting great reports however. I plan on getting on wild birds in January before season closes.

I know what you mean by "dont think she has it" My old Brittany we had for 14 year just passed a few weeks ago. He never had "it" when it came to hunting, however intelligent and one of the best family dogs I ever had. You alway spend more time with them in the home then in the field anyway. If you have a weekend day free sometime and want to see what that viz interest level is let me know, or just want to get out for a hunt.

definitely. I'd love to see what she'll do, she's really soft and I worry that she'll be gun shy but I think if she hears the bang over a bird she won't notice.
The springers my dad ran always just sort of knew, they never needed much training it seemed, mine just wants to lay on the couch and watch a movie with the humans.

Come sit on my front porch between daylight and 8:30AM and a nice healthy one that looks like a well kept dog trots down the street. I'll throw some dog food out to see if he will stop for it. If you can trac and kill one you will be considered a hunter among hunters. I have heard of folks hunting them for 20 years and never getting one.
I know what your talking about. Calling machines for coyotes, bait stations and dogs for bears is called something but it's not called hunting. Might piss some off with that statement but oh well. I lived for twelve years in Alaska and I've seen bears killed over donut piles and wolves killed by calling em in using electronics. Lame as hell.
