'88 XJ, 4.0 5spd, We were on a long trip when the motor suddenly started overheating, we pulled over and it had run out of antifreeze, after we let it cool down we filled it back up with a 50/50 mix, ran back down the road for maybe a mile or 2 and it over heated again, pulled over and let it cool off again, this time we removed the thermostat, filled it completly, started it up again and it never got hot again, but, the thermostat was completly open and letting fluid by when we took it out, BUT the radiator was not even hot, there was water blowing out of the overflow tank both times, but you could leave your hand on the radiator the whole time.
Is this maybe the radiator, water pump, I know that the cooling system is kinda funny on these XJ's and I know that your not supposed to have any air bubbles in the system. We were sure there wasnt any air pockets in it before the trip, the over heating happend VERY suddenly.
Thanks
James
