symptoms. driving at highway speed and all of a sudden lost the ability to maintain speed, engine started sputtering and the temp was one dash past 210, maybe a bit less. I pulled over and only then did I realize I was decorating the road with antifreeze, steem then enveloped as I turned it off.
It turns out that the lower radiator hose had slipped off a bit, only a crack, and I lost a lot of fluid. I had even replaced the OEM clamps with hose clamps. I also noticed the reservoir bottle was at it regular height.
Limped it to some water and got it home. Had to hose every damn thing down then went investigating. As it idled it would just shoot up to 215 or so and stay, the aux fan would come on too. I was reluctant to consider replacing the thermostat because I had just replaced it with one maybe two months earlier.
But since thats the cheapest and easiest fix that what I did. Seemed to work too, filled it with fluid and watched the reservoir bottle bubble while the fluid cycled.
Then last night as I came off the freeway, normal op temp the whole time, it shot to 215 again. I wasn't too worried and just got to where I was going to let it cool.
Every time since then it hasnt gotten above 185 and the reservior level goes up and down drastically with temp.
Any ideas? Water pump, dirty radiator? I'm planning a spring break trip to the Grand Canyon so I was hoping to be able to comfortable drive without worry.
Thanks
