Cool air ram/vent

I found these and thought they would be a cool idea but wish they were more of a flush design. Anyone seen something that fits more flush?

Try a semi tractor accessory/parts place. They make that same vent for the sleepers on semi's and it sits nearly flush - about as high as the vent lid, not as high as the one you posted. I imagine it'd still be about 1" tall at a minimum though.......

There might even be a semi tractor salvage yard around and you might be able to snag 'em there. Probably just have to bring a drill/bit to drill out the rivets.

Mount it to the roof. Then you'll get some good air flow. Right above the drivers head. It won't look silly up there.

I think most non-stroked XJ owners have found that venting the hood is more about releasing heat than bringing cooler air in.

I think I have a set of LeBaron vents here in the garage. I KNOW I have one. It's just a matter of finding the other. They are great for releasing heat.

Only $1200 for both. :laugh:

I did the same thing with mine but ran it backwards, worried about water getting everywhere in the engine. did u let your dog make the opening?lol:roflmao:j/k

yes they are "backwards" altho i think that is a matter of opinion.

If you think thats bad you should see the bottom of the hood... think "first time with tin-snips" im looking to get a cutoff wheel to make the inside cleaner.

I havent had problems with water, i live in wyoming, i dont think ive even driven it in the rain since i opened them to tell you the truth.

I think my dog would have done a better job.

haha, I used a cutoff wheel on a die grinder on mine, cleaned and rustpainted the edges and used door edge mounding to "clean it up". You should be fine having them rearward and theres enough of a lip to keep water from running in. nice lookin doggy!

No not for cooling......I am doing the hinge spacers during the hotter seasons. I was pondering other ideas. I thought they were cool for those that wanted something they could close or open, depending on the weather.

I was looking for something bigger to put on the roof to help vent our hot gases in the summer and give a more open feel

Yeah, Skully's flip up vents would look a bit "utilitarian".......

But it's a toss up on if they'd look worse than those Lee press-on hood scoops....... I'm personally not a fan.

I wasn't saying I am putting them on the Heep, I thought it was a cool idea but I do not like how they are so bulgy sticking up. That is why I asked if anyone has seen something similar that was flush. I would love to create some removable panels on the roof to remove during good weather. The one thing I miss from my old heep is the open air driving.


......I totally forgot about that poor 2 door with the ugly fake louvers! :laugh:
