what is needed to make this thing work, i am thinking about getting one, also is a 4ft antenna ok to use?

The only thing you'd need is an antenna (4' will work, but you may want to mount it high up on the Jeep), a mount of the antenna, and depending on where you're putting it, an extension cable for the antenna. Instructions should be in the box.

Spend a little extra money and get the Wilson 1000 ant and mount. Mount it in the center of your roof for the best tranmission/reception. Once you have it set up make sure you TUNE your radio with a SWR meter!

You use an SWR meter to tune the antenna, its does nothing for the radio.
