Clear creek input. HUGE!

is it my browser settings, or is the powerpoint pdf half washed out with white behind the white text?
I had a hard time discerning what the changes are, other than adding new trails? It's early, and i lightly skimmed looking for a snake to bite me. thanks

It loaded fine in my iPhone. Looks like they are wanting to setup a more established and controlled OHV area. It would probably be worth showing up and pushing for dedicated Jeep and Rock Crawling trails too. I know other states have these sort of OHV Parks.

I have a lot to get done today, but I see a huge potential to manage the impact of increased usage in this area.

More later...

I might've missed it, but is this an idea they have or an actual planthat they're implementing? Would be cool if they made some hard trails with the close front range proximity

I emailed Cory for more information: This is a plan that was presented to Clear Creek last Tuesday. Several groups and individuals provided input at the meeting, with opposition from local residents who were concerned about increased traffic.

My view is that this is not a "If we build it, they will come" plan. With just over ten years as an Adopt-a-Road volunteer on Saxon Mountain, I can assure you that "they" are already here!

Over the past few years I have noted an increase in ATV/UTV vehicles on USFS Roads. Over the past few years I have noticed more 4x4s with either temp tags or out of state plates, (and drivers) with Fun Treks books asking "Is this the road to Georgetown?" Over the past few years I have noticed (and noted) more "braiding," more illegal bypasses, more physical barriers moved. Not all of these "incidents" were on USFS roads, many were on private property, or Clear Creek County property. As a USFS volunteer, these incidents were outside my scope of work, and not noted on any forms submitted to the USFS.

Given this increased traffic, the culture of "NO!" will say to close the roads. As an outdoor enthusiast, I say that we need to be diligent in educating others to conservation issues.

How does a 4x4 owner benefit from this proposition:
Newbies have a place to learn more than just riding. They learn simple trail etiquette, and benefit from exposure to conservation issues.
These "other" groups have more dedicated trails to run, reducing traffic on 4x4 trails.
With county designated OHV routes, "trailer queens" can drive back to designated trailer parking areas.
Oh yeah! With designated trailer parking, and marked, designated OVH routes, this guy can make it home in time for the game!

Seriously, this proposition is a win for everyone, including opponents who are concerned about traffic. That is why I will be typing a letter of support for this proposal.

Please take the time to send your own letter in support of the Blue Ridge Recreation Area proposal.

Well put Mike. I would also suggest adding plans for trails for buggies and more built rigs. There was a plan in the works to do so at Left Hand Canyon but it was dragged through the bureaucratic muck and then after the floods killed for good with the closure of the entire area.

Can we send a letter for this as a chapter as well??
We could.

As I understand it, we need numbers. Cory did not say why, but, they did not hear of this meeting until the last minute.

Numbers as in volume?
Correct!

The link in your first post is already dead. I'll review my downloaded copy, and cover the talking points for this proposal so that people can write things in their own perspective.

A few talking points from the presentation:

OHV SAFETY AND ETHICS TRAINING SITES
Many good reasons…

Strong demand

Focus on youth and novice riders

Safety, safety, safety training

Ethics training

Fulfill training requirements

Skills development

Safe zone for observers

Manage intensive use

Control dust and erosion

Use for events

Facilities for comfort and classes

BLUE RIDGE: OPPORTUNITIES

A great setting for people to gather and share time with family and friends

Improved and expanded trail-based motorized recreation opportunities

Including other outdoor recreation opportunities such as:

E-biking, mountain biking, hiking

Camping

Safety training

Hunting

Access to Clear Creek

Well-designed and managed trailhead

Access to National Forest roads

Improved land management

Interpretive information

Improved safety and security

Respect adjacent private and public lands

If I were to put it into one sentence: This is an opportunity for the County to not only benefit from the (already) increased OHV traffic, but also to affect the culture of outdoor enthusiasts for generations to come.

I got a reply from Beth Luther thanking us (CO chapter of NAXJA) for the input.

The info related to the meeting is posted here: http://www.co.clear-creek.co.us/index.aspx?NID=864

In November 2016, the County applied for grant money to draft a plan for the area. They will have a response in February.

Many kudos go to MHJC for their diligence.
