Alright, my brother is getting his license in a little over a month he has 2 grand and wants something decent. I think I have convinced him into getting a jeep, but 2 grand doesn't get you a good working jeep in my area. So what should I do
A) see about getting a beater jeep and trying to fix it up cheap
B) should I talk him into getting a cheap little honda.
He is looking for something just to get him to and from school and to and from work, any ideas? for the next 2-4 years.

i paid 1700 for my 97 xj last year. keep looking. look in the south, theyre everywhere and no rust problems.

Look thru autotrader.com, I picked up two TJ's for very good prices, both 97's. I notced that there are XJ's round here at the lots, 97+, 99's with color matched bumpers going in the $3-4K range. I would go with an XJ though, solves alot of winter and snow problems.

get a $500 beater and save the rest for the insurance increase when he wrecks it in a month.

think of it this way, if he were to get into an accident (his fault or not), which do you think he'd be safer in? The Honda? or the XJ? Thats the view point i took when I bought mine a year ago. yeah If I went the Honda way i'd have a little more money in my pocket, but what happens in the winter? Can't go to work, and since i'm a HS kid paid hourly, even one missed day hurts. So I opted for the Jeep, for safety, and the ability to still get to where I need to be, regardless of weather.

My vote is for the XJ. Look long and hard. Don't "settle" on something. There are some awesome deals out there, especially from those who dont realize what they really have and are getting rid of it cheap.

Size isn't always equal to safety...my little Tracker came out of a 45mph rear-ender demolished, but all I came out of it with was a broken hand...

Got off better than somebody I used to work with, he rolled his after clipping somebodys front bumper while driving tired and split his head open!
