Cherokee Crawl 2011

THey aren't THAT close to me. I guess I'd be a check point on their way, for Glenn at least. idk about the rest. Mark is in Tega Cay, wherever the hell that's at... lol

I tried.

Dang, when are you going. I haven't planned anything yet. Especially a route...

When the time gets closer I'll figure out my days off and a route up there. I'd like to be there for the duration of the ride. All 3 days.

Just made our reservations at the Harlan County campground. We will be driving up June 30th from Dayton TN . Really looking forward to meeting everyone. I have learned so much from this forum and gotten so many good ideas. Sounds like a great time. We are going to go up and check out the trails sometime after it warms up for a few days just to see what it is like.

The first town over the SC line from my location in Charlotte.

When are you leaving? We could make some sort of a convoy...

Well, Looks like I'll be leaving around 3pm on Thursday. I get off work at 7am that thursday morning (30th) and I plan to go home, get a few hours of sleep then head down the road. I'll probably have everything packed up and be enroute by 3pm Thursday afternoon. I'd be arriving around 9-10pm. I'd be there in just enough time to set up camp, drink a beer and go to sleep! lol

What kind of fee's should be expected for this trip?

Never been to a crawl, never been to Harlan, but its only a 5-6 hour haul, granted, definately a longer than any wheeling trip I've made before, but after looking over the trail map, hearing stories, and seeing pictures, I really want to go and a few of my group have been wanting to also.

I figure 600 miles, plus whatever we wheel, so 700 miles, 100 jeep, 600 towrig, thats about 70 gallons, 210ish in fuel. Easily $100 after beer and grub for 3-4 days, leave a $100 buffer assuming I spend on random Stuff. Then Add in whatever fee's.

400+ for this trip, doesn't sound too terribly bad. Could be done.

Are there any trail fees? How much does the camp ground cost? Is everyone camping at the campground?

I'm in Raleigh area and I'm wanting to go and I'd like to join in that convoy too, according to mapquest I'll be rolling through Greensboro. I need to know about fees and campground dues for the whole thing, and can we do some night wheeling?
Oh I'll also be at Uwharrie the day their trails open, and on the trails till they get tired.

Welcome! I see this is your first post. I'll either be heading out from Cary/Raleigh as well if I'm not moved up to the mountains yet. Too early for details, but keep a watch out on this thread, and this forum: http://naxja.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=259 for more information as we get closer and closer.

Make an intro thread in the SEC and let us know a bit more about you and your XJ. Maybe I have seen you around.

Fees: They have 2 trial passes available. 30 day and yearly. The 30 day pass was $20 IIRC and the yearly was $35. I did the yearly last year and it will not expire till after the crawl. So I got two years for the price of one. Sort of. Permit info here: http://www.harlancountytrails.com/blackmountain-permits.php
