instead of buying any aftermarket CAI ment for a jeep, how bout this...

1. take out the stock box
2. cut the stock elbow down to the first or second rib or buy a silicone elbow, 3. purchase a CAI kit ment for a civic or accord, maybe even other's will work off ebay, the "full 4.0 CAI" on ebay costs about $45 at the cheapest... the honda one is $22 at the cheapest

Cherokee CAI

Honda CAI

4. cut the tubing right before the first bend
5. insert into elbow
6. clamp and hook up hoses as needed and filter
7. and if you wanted you could custom make a hole for the IAT sensor relocation mod :)

there ya go... the cheapest, easiest FULL CAI, a filter ALONE costs at least $20 new... hows that sound?

and as for the TB spacer...

get a piece of aluminum stock, i THINK the TB spacers that are sold for like $100 bucks are 1" (correct me if im wrong). take the TB off your jeep and draw a template for the hole spacing's, copy the template to the aluminum, cut and drill out hole's and get it nice and smooth, maybe polish if you would like to go the extra yard and then you can grind down all the sharp edges and corners if you want to make it look nice. get a few cheap fel-pro gaskets and RTV and install...

i know that the TB spacers usually have a nice swirly looking bore, but people ALWAYS bore their spacers smooth when they install a bored TB for some reason... how does this all sound?

I built a cold air out of trash (steel pipe, some metal brackets) leftover from a construction job and welded together... The cost was virtually nothing except for the air filter which I had to order specially (I will give you the part number) and the metal hose barb things I welded on (NAPA). It was kind of time consuming though.

Don't cut the snorkel, youll never get it how you want or make anything stick to that material. I tried that then went to the pick&pull to get a new snorkel. I wound up using the whole elbow.

You don't have to weld if you can't do it. I wanted it stronger.

You need to remove a certain plastic panel on the front of the engine bay for more airflow and insulate the metal or it becomes a hot air intake.

I'll post a pic and what materials I used. It was simple really, I basically followed write-up here, search for "homebrew FIPK".

I know that AI is Air Intake, but is the ' C ' for chrome? This idea has been done before, do a search for homebrew air intake, air box or FIPK. Dr.Dyno has a great writeup on his site complete with performance calculations and a template for making a cold air ram induction box. It can be done on the cheap quite easily. As for the TBI, the block of aluminum is perfect. The smooth hole is fine, as the 'swirly' crap they cut into it does nothing and is only a marketing gimmick. For a writeup on the homebrew TBI spacer, see GoJeep's website. He even has a template you can use...

looks to me like that ebay auction will only attach to a HO based TB. How come they can claim 89 as a valid model year for their product?

yea i was just throwing out some ideas, i figured everyone and their mother has tried these ideas their own way before... i read everything go jeep / dr dino had to say. im thinkin about making a metal box type of thing out of sheet aluminum to isolate the filter to pull "cold" air from a designated spot, i'd like to do this all, and keep it some what clean looking, as for the home brew chrome air intake ;) ive already made one from a piece of left over exhaust pipe (kinda resembles a fence post but the exhaust shop claimed its used for exhaust... whatever) i had from the camaro and just drilled holes and siliconed in a piece of plastic tube, also thanks for pointing out the TB spacer blue print, i seemed to have over looked it.

i was just trying to pull a few more ponies outta the L6 for as little as possible while still keeping it clean. i dont know where u can get an actual cone filter that is cheaper than $20, so i figured hey, might as well spend the extra 2 bucks and make a full intake from better looking materials IMO then a piece of glavinized fence post with silicone blobed on it lol. in the end im just a newbie in a world of pro's, thanks for all the replies, i love hearing and seeing new ideas from people
