Carnagefest Questions

Hey all, I am not sure if I'll be able to make it yet but I really want to try to get carnagefest with ya'll. If I manage to get there it'll be my first REAL trail run. What should I make sure I absolutely have as in spares, tools, etc. I should have my rear bumper built by then and my front should be here so hopefully I'll be able to get that on then too. I don't know if I'll have my spare carrier built for it yet, but hopefully so that I can have a spare tire. What else should I really make sure I have?

Thanks, and hope to finally meet ya'll soon,
Mike

I too might wing it and come out.. i was out last weekend, but got a hole in my gas tank and only got to wheel for about 2 hours. I was bummin'

Here is an excerpt taken from the NAXJA required equipment list. This is the minimum required list that is used at all formal events. It is a good idea to have this anytime you wheel:

Equipment List
1) Visibly charged fire extinguisher (BC or ABC)
2) First aid kit
3) Adequate spare tire, jack and lug wrench
4) Safety belts for driver and any current passenger
5) Adequate attachment points in the front and rear of the vehicle:
Acceptable forms of attachment points: (All Items must be mounted in a manner to provide adequate strength and integrity)
a) Tow hooks of OEM or greater integrity
b) D-Rings
c) Shackle/Clevis
6) 20ft 10,000lb snatch strap without any metal hooks
7) Secured battery (no bungee cords)

As far as tools and parts ... just make sure you have spare parts for those that you feel you may break along with enough tools to do the repairs.

PS: It is not on the list, but it is recommended to have a CB Radio. This is not a mandatory item, but it does help you keep informed while running with a group.

I ran Winterfest without one...

I bought one the next weekend.

Very helpful.

Please don't show up without a spare.

Seriously

Set it in the passenger seat if you have to.

Why Brad? You don't want to have to loan yours out? :D

Les

BTW: Make sure your spare is more than just adequate ... ask me how I know.

Haha, ok... I'll make sure to have a spare if I manage to get out there. But you said to ask, so why do I have to make sure the spare is adequate? It will be though, I plan on ordering up a brand new tire next week. And I'm also going to see if I can manage to get most everything on that list too. We'll see what happens. I just remembered I have that whole college classes thing starting next week once again so I'm going to have to cough up some cash for those books that sit on my floor the whole semester. It's amazing how you can force yourself to forget these things.

Oh yeah, and my rear bumper isn't finished yet, but it is functional as of today. So I've at least got that much going for me. My front one should be here soon, I'm starting to get antcy for that.

I threw a spare in the back that was on a rim with stock back spacing and a tire about 3 sizes smaller than what I was running. It got me off the trail, but it rubbed my TRE all the way back to the campgrounds. No way would it have gotten me home. I ended up borrowing Brads (kid4lyf) spare for a couple of weeks.

That's how I know ... :)

well, my rig will be there, with a 33" spare mounted on a 15x8 - 5 on 5.5 - and i wont need it...

as well as all my tools that i wont be able to use...

mostly show up with a vehicle in good running condition and a full tank of gas...

an empty front seat would help me out - my rig is 2x4 and if i flex out my front end - BOOM! goes either my steering knuckle or my rod end...

here is the discussion for carnagefest - http://www.midwestxj.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=19&sid=8a881b9f38b81b81b0e0d7f2c6040c11

Well, I just ordered up most of my stuff today... so I hope I'll get it all on time. No spare yet, still working on that part. CB radio is going to have to wait for a bit... either that or I could just pass on buying a bunch of my school books :laugh3: . Eh, I suppose I should do good in school so that when I'm finally done with all this (2 more years of this whole college business) I can get a good job, good pay, and then have more to spend on my jeep.
