I'm looking to get a new jacket this year and I've been looking at the Carhartt's. Everything I've ever owned of theres seems to last a very long time and I like the quality but I've never owned one of their jackets. I'm just looking for what you guys think of there stuff and what jackets you like and what you don't and why.

I'm looking for something for the fall and winter. I live in New England so it gets pretty cold here. I'd be wearing it for work too which I don't really have a choice about staying inside for. I tow for a couple of companies for the local pd and private towing so I'm outside in all kinds of weather.

I was looking at:

Good? Bad? Dont buy a carhartt jacket?

Buy one! you won't have any complaints. Last year I got one of the "Arctic" coats and it is perfect for cold Ohio weather. They are comfy, tough, and very, very warm. Besides all of the hardware (zippers, buttons, etc) are very tough and large enough to use with gloved hands. Also the more you wear them the better they look.

I have used only Carhartt jackets for the last 20 some years. I will never buy any other jacket or coat. Recentlly I purchased one of the "new" Codura Nylon jackets, as opposed to the traditional cotton duck, I am happy to report the same strength and warmth as the duck...if not a little better. Get the black arctic lining if you want to stay warm, and get the bibs to match.

Thanks for the replies.

Rev, how far down does the Arctic coat go? They didnt have any at the store for me to try on so I don't know how it fits. I was going on the description from a catalog.

I dont want something too long. I'll be doing a lot of moving around so mid-high thigh would be about as long as I want to go.

ive got one of the regular length ones with the elastic around the bottom of the coat. the elastic rests right below my waistline. when i bend over or reach straight up its almost a little too short but it fits good everywhere else real good. this is just characteristic of carhart i guess. i love mine.

Outstanding quality for the money...

Aren't Carhart's the unofficial clothing of Winterfest?

I agree. I don't own a Carhartt product that I'm not happy with. I see they make boots now too, anyone try these yet?

And, yes...I believe they are an unofficial sponsor. If not, they should be.

They also have a one piece coverall that is pretty comfy...when inside just unzip the legs and front.

If you get the regular it will be about 3"-4" below your waist line. The "tall" is about 2" longer than that. I'm about 6'1" and have the long. It never gets in the way but I like the way the "reg" looks better.

My dad has those coveralls and they had never been worn until 2 years ago thanks to me. I wear them everytime I go out to snowblow and it always feels like I'm sitting in front of a fire.

Thats pretty much what I'm looking for. I'll have to see if I can find someplace local that has one in stock tomorrow since I'll have some free time for once.

I remember two stores that carried carhartd out on the cape, one was the army/navy surplus store in orleans and the the other was an outdoor store across the street from the goose hummock sporting good store about 100 yards off the Orleans circle.

Check Cabella's. I think they handle Carhartt and have all the pix and options.

The only things I have ever owned by Carhartt that I didn't like were the baseball cap because it felt too heavy on my head and their work gloves becuase the leather is too stiff. I could never get it to loosen up to where my fingers were comfortable in them.

I have had my Carhartt coat now for going on 8 seasons. I wear it about every day here in Tennessee in the winter (sure it is only in the mid 30s) and it really helped a lot when I lived in Michigan.

When I went to Alaska 5 years ago, that is the only coat I brought and it keep me toasty.

Their pants are great also. I worked on a shipping yard at the Nissan Plant and I wore the same pair 5 days a week, would wash them every Sunday, and they lasted me 2 years. I'd still be wearing them if I hadn't gotten fat!

Get a Carhartt and enjoy it!

i've got one very similar to ....

but the upper pockets aren't that big.

it was first my brother's jacket. he then handed it down to me after he used it for 5 or so years hunting. i then used it for hunting. i walked through a manny a thorn patch with out a single rip, tear, or cut stitching. i cleaned it up and now use it as a winter jacket. i'd guess it's well over 15 years old and has been holding up great. i love how over time it conforms to your shape and fits like a glove.

I don't know about up there, but where I live all the welding supply houses carry carhartt clothing at a much lower price than just about any other store. Might be worth checking into.

Cabela's Fall sale catalog has flannel-lined washed duck pants @$29.95 (like $20 off) Kinda funky 'petrol blue' color but :dunno: They also have some jackets & bibs on sale too...

I have 4 pair of their double-front duck pants... only one to ever show wear was from a die grinder with a coarse carbide burr... that was in 2001 and it hasn't raveled up yet.

I was skeptical at first, now I won't buy anything but Carhartt for work pants anymore

The one complaint I have with Carhartt is that they don't seem to hold up to washing well.
At least my jacket didn't.
They even recommend not washing them often and it's good advice.
I had a black jacket that faded, got very light spots, and even frayed at the edges with every washing.
Mostly just cosmetic and not a big deal if used for work only but I expected better from them.

I like Red Wing, but I love my Carolina boots.

I'm on my second Carhart Chore Coat, damn dog decided to teeth on my old one. I also have thier bib over-all's, couple pairs of pants, and I love the flannel lined shirts.

Is there a Sportsman's Warehouse near you? They have about the biggest selection I've seen.

As for boots, Matterhorn's, with Carolina's a close second.
