Carburating a 4.0L?

Could you take a Carb and wiring of a 4.2L and make it work on a 4.0L?
I know I would have to remove the fuelrail, and plug the port for the injectors and do some creative fuel line plumbing. But would it be that hard?

I didn't come up with this, a guy I'm doing some Jeep related work for thought it up. He want's me to try to do it, I just need to know if it's even possible.

I'm not sure if this belongs here since I'm de-advancing engineering something but also coming up with something advanced fabrication wise.

Why would you do that? Doesn't make much sense. But I am not sure you can anyway. You would have to either make an adapter to mount the carb or buy an intake. The carb would then be too tall for the hood. The next thing would be finding a distributor to work and fit the 4.0 block, because I don't think the current one will work. All of this will cost alot of money and makes me wonder why you don't just fix the problem you currently have. If you are thinking of making an engine swap easier, just use the whole 4.2.

Thats what I told him, just swap in the damn 4.2L. He thinks it would be pretty simple, I kinda doubted it would work at all. He fried the wiring harness around the valve cover, it was leaking oil and it caught fire, I'm not sure really. I'm going back over there tomorow to see whats actually gone and to see if i could just rewire it almost back to the way it was.

Yes you can, it sucks balls but you can, my friend has a wrangler that had a 97 4.0 that was converted to a carb, like I said it sucked but it worked, he just sold the kit on ebay, they sell a bunch of them I guess, its a performance mod for the 4.2, its just worthless for 4.0s.
But yes it has been done. I can dig up some more if you wnat me to.

I greatly apprecaite some more info. on it, just incase this guy really wants it done, so I have something to work with.

YJ's an be converted they have more hood clearance, the XJ does not have the room. I had a friend try it on an early XJ, he had to cut a hole in the hood, two months later he junked it. FIx the wiring. If you have to use side draft webers, sweet sound too, but will cost you more than an XJ.

Whos Lamar and why should i talk to him/her/it?

Its a little wierd for me to sit here and watch a conversation between two people who quote me as their tagline.

Don't I recall reading somewhere you can bolt a 4.2L intake manifold to an early 4.0 head? or rather, I recall people bolting renix era 4.0 intakes to 4.2 heads, but if you can go one way, logic says you can go the other?
