Can these shackles be shortened?

Does anyone know if these can be shortened? With them adjusted as short as they go they are too long. I haven't taken them all the way apart to see how far down the female end the threads run or how long the male end is to see if I can cut them down.

Stock MJ shackles were too short...so I need something in between. This is for the front of my MJ.

I'd even be willing to trade straight up for a heavy duty set of regular shackles if they fit the bill length wise.

Have you called Andy @ Ironman? I would guess that the female threads all the way in knowing how he builds things......

Why not just make your own?

I'm not that talented. (can't weld)

I will have them apart this weekend...I just order my new front springs so I will be able to check then...I was curious if someone knew offhand though.

That's what I'm hoping...I still want the adjustability and I love how beefy they are...just need them to be about 2-3" shorter.

I don't see why the female and the male can't be shortened the same length together. Should accomplish the same thing.

Agreed. Chop saw thread file. Done. Depending on how much time work you want to put into it you might want to shoot Andy an email or call and ask about a shorter set. I know for a fact he has built custom stuff for people when what they got didn't work like they needed and then he took the original one back. Then again it might be cheaper easier if you have a chop saw and tread file. Just thinking out loud here.....

That's my plan. I wouldn't feel right to try to send them back since I've had them for several months and they have been used.

If I get them apart and can't cut them for some reason (IE not enough threads) I will just sell them and get a different set.

IIRC the threaded part of those are from the bushing to the end and the female is the same. At collapsed length its fully threaded if I remember right. You should be able to cut them both and inch or two without a problem.

So where you able to shorten them? I talked to Andy and he said at full collapse they male and female pieces are about the same length. So yea you can shorten them.

Thanks for asking him Glen. :D

I wasn't able to work on them...it's been raining real bad every day since Saturday and my springs didn't show up until yesterday anyway...so...no workie on jeep. I could have pulled it in the garage...but the 2' walkway left due to my wife's yard sale habit nixed that.

I may be able to do some of it this weekend.

No problem. He's a hell of a good guy and builds some great stuff. Stands behind it too. I need to go see him and his family soon......

And they absolutely can.

Of course the new springs changed the wheelbase etc so now I have to have my front driveshaft shortened but it all went together and I drove it around some last night.

Big thing out da way for the Crawl!!
